What is remote development?

Remote development refers to the practice of software development where developers work from locations outside of a traditional office environment, often from home or co-working spaces. This setup is enabled by various collaboration tools, cloud services, and version control systems that allow teams to communicate and manage code remotely. Remote development offers flexibility, can improve work-life balance, and allows companies to tap into a global talent pool. However, it also requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to ensure productivity and team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote developer?

To thrive as a Remote Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with relevant coding languages, often supported by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, collaborative platforms such as GitHub or Jira, and remote communication tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Excellent self-motivation, time management, and clear written communication help remote developers stand out. These skills ensure productivity, effective teamwork, and reliable project delivery in a distributed work environment.

How do remote development teams typically collaborate and stay aligned on projects?

Remote development teams usually rely on a combination of project management tools, version control systems, and regular virtual meetings to stay connected and aligned. Communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, along with daily stand-ups and sprint planning sessions, help ensure everyone is updated on progress and blockers. Code repositories such as GitHub or GitLab facilitate collaborative coding, while documentation tools keep information accessible. Effective remote collaboration often requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to manage tasks independently while staying engaged with the team.

  • 7+ years of successful B2B sales or business development experience selling high-technology products or solutions
  • Demonstrated track record of selling directly into the U.S. Government, DoD, military services, and/or Intelligence Community

  • Proven ability to manage long-cycle, high-value technical sales
  • Strong understanding of government procurement processes and customer buying behaviors
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accountability in a remote environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for customer meetings, demos, and industry events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience selling simulation, training systems, modeling & simulation, VR/AR/XR, robotics, or related defense technologies
  • Existing relationships within key military training commands, program offices, or major defense primes
  • Experience with ITAR/EAR-controlled products or export-controlled technology
  • Current or previously held U.S. security clearance (Secret or higher)
  • Familiarity with contract vehicles, OTAs, or other common government acquisition pathways
  • Prior professional experience within the U.S. military, DoD, or a related government environment is a plus

What Success Looks Like

  • Consistent generation of qualified pipeline in the government and military simulation & training space
  • Accurate forecasting and disciplined opportunity management
