Job description

BPR Consulting Group (www.bpr-grp.com) is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing company and serve our clients. This position may be remote and is an hourly as needed.

The successful candidates must have experience and success in providing fire protection engineering services, including performing code analysis, developing fire protection and life safety system designs, preparing engineering reports, reviewing construction documents, and coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies. A strong knowledge of fire and building codes, engineering principles, and fire alarm and water based protection system design is essential to the success of the selected individuals. In addition knowledge of hazardous materials review is highly desired.

Essential Duties

The essential duties noted below are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, functions, and skills. They are intended to be a summary of key job responsibilities and duties.

  • Perform plan review of fire protection engineering analyses for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects.
  • Develop fire protection and life safety system designs, including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, smoke control, special hazards, and other fire protection systems as required.
  • Review architectural and engineering plans for compliance with applicable building, fire, and life safety codes and standards.
  • Prepare Review fire protection engineering reports, code analyses, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation for permitting and regulatory approval.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) throughout the design and construction process.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding fire and building code requirements, fire protection systems, and life safety design.
  • Conduct field observations and site visits to verify construction and system installations for compliance with approved plans and applicable codes.
  • Support permit applications, agency reviews, and respond to plan review comments as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Perform all work consistent with BPR's and Clients' policies and procedures.
  • Provide all services in an efficient, proactive, and client-focused manner.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Two (2) or more years of fire protection engineering experience in consulting, government, or related industry.
  • Experience with the design and analysis of fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Strong knowledge of the California Building Code (CBC), California Fire Code (CFC), NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), and related fire protection codes and standards.
  • Experience reviewing code analyses, engineering reports, and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering is preferred. Candidates with the ability to obtain California licensure are encouraged to apply.
  • NICET certifications and additional ICC certifications are a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients and project teams.
