What is a remote deck designer?

A remote deck designer is a professional who creates plans and visual designs for decks, such as patios or outdoor spaces, while working from a remote location rather than on-site. They use digital tools and software to communicate with clients, understand their needs, and develop detailed drawings or 3D renderings of deck projects. Remote deck designers may collaborate with contractors, landscapers, or homeowners to ensure the design is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and compliant with local building codes. Their work often includes selecting materials, planning layouts, and offering recommendations based on the client's budget and space. This role allows for flexible work arrangements and often involves a mix of creative design and technical skills.

What are some common challenges faced by remote deck designers and how can they be managed?

Remote deck designers often face challenges such as limited on-site access, which can make it harder to visualize the space and communicate effectively with clients or contractors. To overcome this, they typically rely on detailed photos, measurements, and virtual meetings to ensure accurate designs. Building strong, proactive communication habits and using collaborative design software can help bridge the distance and ensure everyone stays aligned throughout the project. Additionally, understanding local building codes and materials remotely requires thorough research and sometimes direct coordination with local suppliers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Deck Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Deck Designer, you need proficiency in architectural design principles, spatial planning, and a strong understanding of building codes, often supported by a degree in architecture, design, or related fields. Mastery of CAD software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Revit, along with knowledge of project management and collaboration tools, is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail help you effectively interpret client needs and deliver visually compelling designs remotely. These skills ensure that designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing while meeting client specifications and regulatory requirements, leading to successful project outcomes.

Job description

Please apply using the form and include a portfolio — it’s the best way to ensure we see your work. We will not review applications sent via email, direct messages, or website inquiries.

This role must be based in the US.

About Nen Creative

Nen Creative is an interdisciplinary studio helping tech startups launch bold ideas into the world — building the brands, products, and stories that power their growth.

Since 2022, we've partnered with some of the world’s top founders and institutions — including Amazon, Pear VC, Andreessen Horowitz, Mercor, Context Inc, Netic, Listen Labs, Tech Week, and many more. We’re growing crazy fast and are looking for amazing people to join us!

About the Opportunity

We’re building the studio we always wanted to work at — fast-moving, design-led, and trusted by the best in tech. In a short time, we’ve gone from zero to partnering with Amazon, top VCs, and some of the most ambitious startups in the world.

Now we’re looking for a Brand Designer to lead the creation of bold, modern brand identities and websites for high-growth startups. You’ll join a small, focused team where your work has direct impact on how tomorrow’s companies launch and scale.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the development of brand identities from concept through execution, including logos, typography, color systems, and full brand guidelines

  • Design websites in Figma that translate brand strategy into strong digital experiences

  • Create client-facing design assets across pitch decks, marketing collateral, social graphics, launch materials, and other brand touchpoints

  • Extend brand systems across real-world applications to ensure the work feels cohesive beyond the initial identity

  • Present and communicate work directly to clients, helping them make confident creative decisions

  • Balance multiple design explorations with high-level craft and attention to detail

  • Partner with creative directors, strategists, and PMs to ensure design outcomes align with client goals

  • Drive visual consistency across brands, websites, decks, and marketing design projects

What We’re Looking For
  • 2-4 years of experience in brand design (agency or studio preferred)

  • A strong portfolio that showcases:

    • Brand identities created from scratch (not just refreshes or marketing visuals)

    • Website design that feels modern, clean, and built for tech/startup audiences

  • Confidence in client communication — you can present work, explain rationale, and guide non-designers through decisions

  • Strong grasp of typography, layout, and composition with a modern, tech-forward aesthetic

  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team in a fast-paced environment

Bonus Points
  • Experience in Webflow or hands-on website building

  • Motion, 3D, or illustration skills

  • Marketing design experience across campaigns, social, or advertising

  • Comfort working in unstructured, high-growth environments

Why Join Nen Creative
  • Be part of a small, fast-growing studio trusted by world-class startups and investors

  • Work directly with top founders shaping the future of tech

  • Clear growth path as we scale

  • Remote-friendly, flexible, and entrepreneurial environment

  • Healthcare, PTO, 401K
