What is remote data management?

Remote Data Management refers to the practice of organizing, storing, securing, and analyzing data from a location outside of an organization's physical premises. Professionals in this field use cloud-based tools and remote access software to manage databases, ensure data integrity, and facilitate data sharing among distributed teams. This approach enables businesses to maintain their data infrastructure efficiently while supporting remote work and global collaboration. It also involves implementing protocols to ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations.

What are remote jobs in data management?

Various types of remote data management jobs are available in healthcare and insurance, with titles like clinical data manager, analyst, and auditor. In these jobs, you manage a database and provide analysis of information related to clinical trials, medical payments, operational activities, and more. Your duties and responsibilities include generating reports, database administration, and providing support for coworkers throughout your organization, but your responsibilities can vary based on what kinds of data you store. Additionally, you work with your company’s leadership to address issues affecting the availability and use of data and proactively suggest strategies for improving efficiency and accuracy. In some roles, you also participate in project planning, resource allocation, and budgeting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote data management?

To thrive in Remote Data Management, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of database concepts, often supported by a degree in information systems or a related field. Proficiency with data management tools such as SQL, Microsoft Excel, and cloud-based platforms like AWS or Google Cloud, as well as knowledge of data privacy regulations, is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are important soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams and managing tasks independently. These skills ensure accurate, secure, and efficient handling of data assets while maintaining productivity and compliance in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced in remote data management, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote data management is ensuring data security and integrity while working outside a traditional office environment. Remote team members must follow strict protocols for data access and regularly update security measures to protect sensitive information. Additionally, effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams can be more difficult remotely, so utilizing project management and communication tools is vital. Establishing clear workflows and regular check-ins helps maintain data consistency and team alignment.

Job description

Job Summary

Clark Associates, a distinguished leader in the foodservice equipment and supplies industry, is seeking a dedicated and visionary individual to join our Augmented Inventory Management (AIM) team. As the foremost and rapidly expanding foodservice equipment and supplies dealer in the USA, we leverage a network of over 20 strategically positioned national distribution centers to promptly deliver an extensive catalog of 90,000+ products to our valued customers within an efficient 1-2 business day timeframe.

This role sits on the Augmented Inventory Management (AIM) team within Procurement Operations. The team is responsible for building and improving the systems that drive inventory decisions at scale—ensuring the right products are in the right place at the right time across our distribution network.

As part of AIM, you will use data, forecasting, and optimization models to directly influence purchasing, allocation, and replenishment strategies. Your work will help improve product availability, reduce excess inventory, and support efficient growth as the business continues to scale.

This is a highly applied role focused on solving real operational problems. You’ll partner closely with Procurement and Operations to translate business needs into prescriptive solutions, while continuously improving the models and processes that power our inventory decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Model Development: Create advanced statistical, and machine learning models that optimize inventory management processes, fostering efficient allocation and utilization of resources.
  • Collaboration: Interface with stakeholders in procurement and operations to devise systematic solutions for intricate inventory management challenges.
  • Continuous Enhancement: Research and implement enhancements to existing models, keeping abreast of emerging methodologies in the field.
  • Actionable Insights: Extract meaningful insights from data and formulate actionable recommendations that tangibly bolster the company's financial performance.
  • Solution Validation: Implement robust monitoring mechanisms to validate the efficacy of deployed solutions.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
  • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience
  • Experience: Over 3 years of practical experience using SQL and optimization/statistical/machine learning programming (Python preferred, R and Matlab accepted).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in operations research, data science, statistics or a closely related quantitative field; alternatively, over 4 years of experience with an optimization, data, research, or applied science team.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to swiftly acclimate to evolving environments, rapidly learn new skills, and apply them to intricate problem-solving scenarios.
Education

This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.

Desired Traits & Skills
  • Supply Chain Expertise: Familiarity with supply chain and warehouse stock optimization practices.
  • Operations Research Experience: Familiarity with building optimization models (E.g. OR-Tools, CPLEX, Gurobi)
  • Forecasting Acumen: Exposure to time series forecasting models.
  • Reporting Proficiency: Experience with reporting tools like Power BI and Excel for sharing results.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical processes for non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in data science, statistics, operations research, industrial engineering, or a closely related highly quantitative field.
