Description
Metropolitan Companies is seeking a Data Engineer to support our growing data and application environment. This role will serve as a critical bridge between traditional database administration and modern data engineering-supporting data pipelines, integrations, reporting, and database performance.
This position is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in SQL and databases, and is looking to grow into data engineering, automation, and analytics. The individual will work closely with developers, business teams, and IT leadership to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and optimized for business use.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for internal applications and reporting
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and database jobs
  • Support and maintain SQL Server and other relational databases
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve efficiency
  • Assist with ETL/ELT processes to move and transform data between systems
  • Work with APIs and external systems to integrate data into internal platforms
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and reliability across systems
  • Support reporting needs for operations, finance, and leadership teams
  • Assist in managing backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes
  • Document data flows, schemas, and processes for internal use
  • Collaborate with development teams on data structures and application performance

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of experience working with databases or data-related roles
  • Strong knowledge of SQL (queries, joins, indexing, performance tuning)
  • Experience with SQL Server or similar relational databases
  • Understanding of data structures and relational design
  • Experience writing scripts or automations (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot data issues and think analytically
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy

Preferred:
  • Experience with ETL tools or data pipeline frameworks
  • Familiarity with APIs and data integrations
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Understanding of CI/CD or version control (Git)
  • Basic knowledge of data warehousing concepts
