Remote Data Analysts interpret data, generate insights, and support decision-making. While both roles involve data, their core functions and skill sets differ, making them distinct career paths in the data industry.

What is a Remote Data Exchange?

A Remote Data Exchange refers to the process of transferring, sharing, or accessing data between different systems, locations, or organizations via remote connections, often over the internet. This is commonly used in businesses that need to share data securely and efficiently without being physically present. Remote Data Exchange can involve various technologies and protocols to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulations. It is widely used for cloud storage, remote work collaboration, and integrating systems across different geographic locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Exchange Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Exchange Specialist, you need strong analytical abilities, knowledge of data formats and protocols (such as XML, JSON, and EDI), and experience with data integration, often backed by a relevant degree in IT or computer science. Familiarity with data exchange platforms, ETL tools, APIs, and certifications in data management or integration are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating with external partners and internal teams. These skills ensure accurate, secure, and efficient data transfers, supporting seamless business operations and compliance.

What are the main challenges of working in a Remote Data Exchange role and how can they be addressed?

One of the main challenges in a Remote Data Exchange role is ensuring secure, efficient, and accurate data transfer across different platforms, often while collaborating with distributed teams. This requires strong communication skills and familiarity with data integration tools, as well as an understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements. Establishing clear protocols for data handling and regularly coordinating with IT, compliance, and business stakeholders helps address these challenges and maintain smooth operations. Additionally, staying updated on best practices and new technologies in data exchange can further enhance your effectiveness in the role.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior BIM (Digital Design) Manager to lead digital delivery across our hyperscale data center portfolio. Reporting to and working alongside the Senior BIM Manager Lead, this role implements and enforces, at the project level, the firmwide BIM standards, execution plans, and coordination workflows that the Senior BIM Manager Lead owns. A central focus of the role is overseeing our U.S. BIM staff and global enterprise-capabilities (EC) partners and holding them accountable: monitoring their work against project standards, scope, and schedule, driving timely correction of deficiencies, and stepping in on the occasion project deliverables are in jeopardy of missing a deadline. This is a remote position open to candidates across the United States, with a hybrid option available for those near an AECOM office.

This position offers the flexibility of a remote work schedule and can be based from a variety of locations in the US where AECOM has an office.

Although the position is primarily remote periodic travel may be required for client meetings, key project milestones, onsite collaboration sessions, or other business‑critical activities. Travel is expected to be occasional and scheduled in advance

AECOM is a leader in the global data center consulting industry with robust teams in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with our teams around the world on high-profile, fast-paced data center projects for global clients.  This is a hands-on, client-facing role with an opportunity for upward career mobility.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

1. BIM Standards & Execution

  • Implement and tailor project-level BIM standards within the firmwide framework owned by the Senior BIM Manager Lead, including BIM Execution Plans (BEP) templates, naming conventions, QA/QC checklists, and CDE folder structures suited to project type and client requirements.
  • Develop and maintain project BEP and related documentation, aligned to industry standards, NBIMs, NCIS, AIA, BIMForum and ISO 19650, and client Exchange Information Requirements.
  • Lead administration of the project Common Data Environment (CDE), such as Autodesk Forma or ProjectWise: folder structures, permissions, metadata, workflows, archival/retention, and integration with project-management systems.
  • Run BIM kickoff meetings internally, EC partners, consultants and clients for all phases.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and information-delivery milestones, flagging risks in digital deliverables to the Senior BIM Manager Lead.

2. Oversight & Accountability

  • Oversee day-to-day BIM production performed by U.S. BIM staff and EC teams, ensuring work aligns with the project BEP, standards, scope, and agreed Level of Development/Information.
  • Hold teams accountable to agreed quality, scope, and schedule: tracking progress, identifying gaps early, and driving timely correction.
  • Conduct regular QA reviews, visually inspect models, review clash and coordination efforts, advise on BIM solutions, provide model health scoring, and audits deliverables; triage issues, document deficiencies and non-compliance clearly, and escalate persistent or systemic issues to the Senior BIM Manager Lead.
  • Clarify scope and modeling expectations to teams and serve as a primary day-to-day point of contact for coordination.
  • Maintain accountability records (issue logs, audit results, deliverable status) that give the Senior BIM Manager Lead and project leadership clear visibility into performance.

3. Hands-On Production & Quality Backfill

  • Step in to produce, correct, or complete model content directly if output is late, incomplete, or below standard, to keep project deliverables on schedule.
  • Perform hands-on Revit production across disciplines as needed: modeling, sheet setup, parameter population, and corrections.
  • Resolve BIM design and modeling issues directly throughout all project phases.
  • Create smart-object content and templates to support production and reduce rework.

4. Project Delivery, Coordination & Reporting

  • Setup and/or verify project models, ensuring correct shared coordinates, base point, survey point, and model-coordination standards.
  • Establish and/or run multidisciplinary model coordination across projects: scheduled clash detection, issue triage, model health scoring, and remediation tracking, with particular attention to the high-density MEP and structural interfaces typical of data center builds (Navisworks, Revizto, Forma Model Coordination and Issues).
  • Oversee model lifecycle integration for 3D/4D/5D and incoming contractor and consultant model submittals, supporting progress reporting and cost integration.
  • Conduct regular model reviews and compliance checks across all delivery locations.
  • Report monthly on BIM KPIs, compliance metrics, and deliverable status to the Senior BIM Manager Lead and project leadership and maintain supporting dashboards.

5. Automation & Technical Enablement

  • Build and execute an automation roadmap focused on delivery needs, prioritizing Dynamo and Revit API scripts that reduce repetitive modeling, QC, and quantification tasks, especially to QA and remediate work efficiently.
  • Provide technical production support on 3D and 2D deliverables, smart-object content creation, and template development.
  • Deploy and support AECOM’s content management systems (Autodesk Content Catalogue / UNIFI).
  • Support asset information management (AIM) and digital handover for facilities management and digital-twin environments.

6. Resourcing, Training & Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide input to project estimates for BIM scope and resource schedules; help monitor utilization and recovery across assigned projects.
  • Contribute to role-based training and certification to build baseline BIM competency across U.S. and EC teams, and mentor EC coordinators and junior staff on project-standard and client-specific workflows.
  • Capture lessons learned and recurring EC deficiency patterns to refine workflows and inform the Senior BIM Manager Lead.
  • Share best practices, standards, tools, and techniques with the broader BIM team.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree + 6 years of relevant experience or an Associate's Degree + 8 years of relevant experience or HS Diploma + 10 years of relevant experience in BIM/digital delivery, including 2 years of experience directly leading or coordinating multidisciplinary BIM work, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in BIM environments, including experience establishing and enforcing standards and overseeing multidisciplinary teams, preferably within the U.S. market or on U.S. projects; data center or mission-critical experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, overseeing, and performing QA on work produced by offshore / enterprise-capabilities teams, with a proven ability to hold remote teams accountable to standards and schedule.
  • Strong hands-on Revit skills, with the ability to step in and produce or correct model content directly across disciplines.
  • Deep experience with Forma, Revit, Navisworks, and Civil 3D;
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint, ProjectWise, and project planning tools desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability in automation (Dynamo, Revit API, scripting) and delivering quantifiable process improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, NBIMs, NCIS, AIA, BIMForum and ISO 19650 Experience with BEP authoring, QA/QC frameworks, and model lifecycle management.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and training capability.
  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and well-organized, with excellent time management and the ability to drive accountability across distributed teams.
  • Interest or experience in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into BIM and digital-delivery workflows.
