The Fraud Retrospective Product provides analytic application development and support and consulting for Optum Payment Integrity. Our analytics team works with our business partners to support data ingestion and analytic processes identifying potential fraudulent activity.
Software engineering is the application of engineering to the design, development, implementation, testing and maintenance of software in a systematic method. The roles in this function will cover all primary development activities across all technology functions that ensure we deliver code with high quality for our applications, products and services and to understand customer needs and to develop product road maps.
Our Senior Software Engineer position will develop new analytics, enhance existing analytics, and maintain and improve the applications that support these analytics. Additionally, this position will have the opportunity to conduct analysis research and consulting for new project initiatives across the portfolio the team supports. Currently most analytics are written in SAS executing in a SAS Grid / Unix environment, but the team is transforming these analytics leveraging open-source tools like Azure, Python, Scala, Spark.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide realistic effort estimates and project timelines for development and support projects
  • Interpret business requirements and functional specifications and create technical design and technical specifications documents
  • Develop analytic processes following existing standard structures and macros. Develop for a production environment
  • Conduct data extraction and research studies that may include analyzing, reviewing, trending, and presenting information, based on provided specifications, to support adhoc data request
  • Work with business engagement leaders and technical analysts to develop new and modify existing process documentation and templates
  • Conduct analyses of data elements within existing source data mart schemas
  • Analyze healthcare claims from different data sources and identify data integrity issues
  • Perform unit, system and regression testing for programs for quality assurance
  • Performance tuning of existing applications and analytics
  • Guide and advise developers to identify and improve the efficiency of current programming practices
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, ideas and information relating to technologies and be a key technical expert within the team
  • Lead/Mentor new and existing team members
  • Continually identify deficiencies in production processes, propose enhancements, and implement those enhancements to increase productivity or reduce manual effort

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience with SAS
  • 3+ years Relational Database experience - Oracle, Teradata, MySQL, and/or Snowflake
  • 3+ years of analysis, process, problem solving and critical thinking experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of Healthcare Data Experience
  • UNIX
  • Azure, Python, Spark, or Databricks Experience
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with VS Code and GitHub Copilot for AI-assisted development
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
