Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst – Data & Analytics with deep healthcare payer experience and advanced SQL expertise to support complex enterprise data, analytics, and technology initiatives.

Prior healthcare payer experience and advanced SQL expertise are mandatory requirements for this position.

The Senior Business Systems Analyst will serve as a critical bridge between business stakeholders, data engineering teams, product owners, project managers, and technical teams. This individual will translate complex healthcare business requirements into actionable technical specifications while supporting data analysis, troubleshooting, data quality remediation, and enterprise technology initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong business analysis capabilities with the technical ability to independently investigate complex datasets using advanced SQL. Candidates should have experience working within modern enterprise data environments, including Azure and Snowflake, and be comfortable operating in a highly collaborative Agile/Kanban environment.

Prior enterprise AI experience is also required. Candidates should have experience participating in, supporting, or defining requirements for enterprise AI, machine learning, generative AI, or AI-enabled business/data solutions.

Mandatory Core Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • 7+ years of Business Systems Analysis or comparable enterprise technology experience
  • Healthcare payer experience, including familiarity with healthcare data and payer business processes
  • Advanced SQL expertise, including complex queries, joins, CTEs, window functions, data validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
  • Experience translating business requirements into detailed technical and functional requirements
  • Experience investigating and resolving complex data quality issues
  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms and ETL/data integration processes
  • Prior experience supporting enterprise AI or AI-enabled initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder communication and documentation skills

Candidates without meaningful healthcare payer experience or advanced hands-on SQL experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Business Systems Analysis & Requirements Gathering

  • Serve as a primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into clear, actionable technical requirements.
  • Conduct detailed analysis to understand business problems, process gaps, data requirements, and opportunities for technology-driven solutions.
  • Lead stakeholder interviews, discovery sessions, and working meetings to elicit requirements, clarify objectives, and validate proposed solutions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including:
    • Business and functional requirements
    • User stories and acceptance criteria
    • Business workflows
    • Data flow diagrams
    • Source-to-target mappings
    • Process documentation
  • Partner with development and engineering teams to evaluate technical feasibility and ensure requirements are interpreted and implemented accurately.

Advanced SQL & Data Quality Troubleshooting

  • Write, analyze, and optimize advanced SQL queries to support data validation, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, production support, and ad-hoc business requests.
  • Work extensively with complex healthcare datasets to identify discrepancies, patterns, and data integrity issues.
  • Investigate and resolve data quality problems across upstream and downstream systems.
  • Support trouble tickets involving:
    • Data discrepancies

  • Help ensure AI initiatives align with enterprise business requirements, data standards, security expectations, and operational processes.

Project & Delivery Support

  • Operate effectively within a Kanban/Agile environment, managing multiple concurrent initiatives and evolving priorities.
  • Support backlog grooming, requirements refinement, sprint planning, and delivery tracking.
  • Maintain requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and project documentation within Jira and Confluence.
  • Track work across requirements, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Partner with Product Owners and Project Managers on:
    • Change control
    • UAT coordination
    • Risk and issue management
    • Dependencies
    • Delivery timelines
  • Provide concise status reporting covering progress, risks, blockers, dependencies, and upcoming milestones.

BI & Analytics Integration

  • Partner with reporting and analytics teams to align business logic, data definitions, and reporting requirements.
  • Support Tableau dashboards, SQL-based extracts, and enterprise analytics solutions.
  • Help standardize BI processes, master queries, business definitions, and semantic layers.
  • Support business analysts and power users with complex data exploration and ad-hoc analytical requests.

Documentation & Enablement

  • Produce clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical and business documentation.
  • Develop materials such as:
    • Process documentation
    • User guides
    • Training materials
    • Tip sheets
    • Data lineage diagrams
    • Business and technical workflows
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and mentor team members on business analysis, requirements management, and technical troubleshooting best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive Business Systems Analysis, Systems Analysis, Data Analysis, or comparable enterprise technology experience.
  • Required healthcare payer experience.
  • Advanced hands-on SQL expertise, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, subqueries, data validation, troubleshooting, and diagnostic/root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Services and Snowflake.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, data modeling, ETL/ELT, and enterprise data integration.
  • Prior experience supporting enterprise AI, machine learning, generative AI, or AI-enabled business/data initiatives.
  • Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, functional requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Experience operating within Agile and/or Kanban delivery environments.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence or comparable platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across business and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep healthcare payer experience involving claims, eligibility, enrollment, provider, member, risk adjustment, or quality data.

Geographic Preference

This position is remote; however, preference will be given to candidates currently residing in Washington State.
