The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time.   • Sr. II & Sr. Market Design Analyst - salary range - $97,580 - $126,790
  • Lead Market Design Analyst - salary range - $112,240 - $145,810

Join our team as a Market Design Analyst!
The Market Design Analyst plays a critical role in shaping and analyzing market design within SPP. This position is responsible for understanding current market structures, evaluating the impact of proposed changes, and supporting SPP's Market Working Group by facilitating market design modifications and performing in-depth market analysis.
The Market Design Analyst will collaborate with multiple working groups and internal departments-including Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, Training, and other Markets teams-to ensure implemented processes and software align with market design principles. This role also involves engaging with market participants, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs to influence market policy and design.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze current market design and evaluate the impact of proposed modifications.
  • Support SPP Market Working Group in developing and facilitating market design changes.
  • Collaborate with multiple internal departments to ensure alignment between processes, software, and market design.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify and resolve market issues.
  • Develop market metrics, generate reports, and provide insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research and analyze market designs from other RTO/ISO markets to identify best practices.
  • Facilitate internal and external discussions on market design and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Support FERC filings by providing data and assisting in drafting transmittal letters and testimony.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials for market design, train and mentor junior staff and market participants.
  • Maintain accountability for decision-making and meeting deadlines.

To be successful as a Market Design Analyst we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, or other related field
  • Master's degree iin
  • Market Design Analyst II - Three (3) years of job-related experience, not eligible for remote work
  • Sr. Market Design Analyst - Five (5) years of job-related experience
  • Senior II Market Design Analyst - Eight (8) years job-related experience Required
  • Lead Market Design Analyst - Ten (10) years industry experience. Must have previous experience in RTO Market Support, Design or Implementation. Experience can be from the RTO or market participant role.
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
  • Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding
  • Ability to support cross-team and multi-team initiatives and projects and manage the market design components of potentially complex analysis projects
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competence with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate proficiency in business acumen and professional conduct
  • Demonstrate the ability to function with constantly changing and multiple priorities
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills

Sr. and Lead Level Requirements:
  • Ability to recognize and address strategic issues important to Market Design
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting complex technical and analytical studies
  • Skilled at analyzing complex issues and communicating results to diverse stakeholders

Lead Level Requirements:
  • Ability to provide training and mentoring to other staff

Preferred:
  • Advanced degree in economics, math or other related field of study
  • Experience in utility industry, utility operations, RTO operations or energy trading
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
  • Experience in team leadership

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:
This position requires moderate travel for in-office employees (10-15%) and moderate travel for remote employees (15-25%).
