What does a remote data analyst do?

A Remote Data Analyst, particularly for fresh graduates, is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing data to help organizations make informed decisions—all while working from a remote location. They use statistical tools and software like Excel, SQL, or Python to interpret data sets, identify trends, and generate reports. Fresh graduates in this role often collaborate with teams online, learn new analytical methods, and contribute to projects while building their skills and experience. The position offers flexibility and the opportunity to work with diverse industries without needing to be onsite.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data analyst fresh graduate?

To thrive as a Remote Data Analyst Fresh Graduate, you need a solid understanding of statistics, data interpretation, and a relevant degree in fields like mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, and visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication are essential soft skills, especially for remote collaboration and reporting insights. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering accurate analyses and actionable recommendations in a distributed work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by fresh graduates working remotely as data analysts, and how can they overcome them?

Fresh graduates working remotely as data analysts often encounter challenges such as limited guidance, difficulty in understanding company data systems, and feeling isolated from team members. To overcome these, it is helpful to proactively schedule regular check-ins with supervisors, participate in virtual team meetings, and seek mentorship opportunities within the organization. Leveraging online collaboration tools and maintaining open communication can also help build relationships and ensure efficient workflow, even when working from different locations.

Senior Data Analyst, Product Analytics

ShopMy

New York, NY • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Job description

Who You Are

We're looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join ShopMy's growing Data & Analytics team and become a dedicated analytics partner to Product, Engineering, and Design. This role is about helping every product perform to its potential: establishing what success looks like, ensuring the right behaviors are tracked, validating launches, and making it easy to see what's working, what isn't, and where the next opportunity lies.

You know how to identify what drives value and unlock it through better measurement, systems, and analysis. You don't wait for every question to be handed to you. You dig into user behavior, conversion funnels, product performance, and user feedback to find gaps and opportunities, then work with the right teams to act on them. When data is missing, inconsistent, or misleading, you trace the issue to its source and help drive a complete solution.

You bring substantial technical depth and strong product intuition. You can think in SQL, build thoughtful data models, create dashboards that tell a clear story, and translate nuanced findings into clear recommendations. You know that technically correct results can still tell the wrong story, and you have the judgment to recognize when the data does not reflect the user behavior or business question it is meant to explain. You use AI to multiply your output without outsourcing your judgment.

ShopMy sits at the intersection of SaaS, e-commerce, and a multi-sided marketplace, creating an unusually broad product analytics problem space. You'll work across creator, brand, and shopper experiences, help define how we measure AI-powered products, and explore how AI can continuously monitor performance, surface anomalies, and generate insights. This is a high-autonomy role with a direct line from your work to ShopMy's product decisions and business performance.

What You'll Do
  • Own product analytics for key areas, partnering with Product, Engineering, and Design to define success criteria, tracking requirements, and measurement plans from discovery through launch and optimization
  • Build and maintain product data models, dashboards, and analyses that make adoption, conversion funnels, user behavior, product performance, and opportunities clear and actionable
  • Validate launches and monitor live products, creating alerts and quality checks that identify instrumentation gaps, product regressions, anomalous behavior, and data issues early
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses to identify, quantify, and prioritize opportunities that improve product performance and drive business impact
  • Design and evaluate experimentation and measurement strategies, including A/B testing, incrementality, and attribution
  • Audit product tracking across web and mobile sources, events, and transformations, partnering with Data Infrastructure and Engineering to resolve gaps and build the models or pipelines needed for reliable analysis
  • Help measure and improve AI-powered products, and develop AI-enabled analytics workflows that monitor performance, interpret feedback, and surface insights at scale
  • Communicate clear recommendations, challenge assumptions when needed, and quantify the impact of product and analytics initiatives for stakeholders and leadership
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in Data & Analytics, preferably in product analytics within e-commerce, marketplaces, B2B SaaS, marketing technology, agencies, social platforms, or similarly relevant environments
  • Expert SQL skills with experience working with large, complex datasets, building data models and pipelines, and operating within modern cloud data warehouses
  • Strong experience with business intelligence tools, BI modeling, data visualization, and storytelling through dashboards
  • Experience analyzing digital user behavior, conversion funnels, feature adoption, and product performance; defining instrumentation and measurement plans; and working with product analytics tools such as Amplitude, Heap, Mixpanel, or similar platforms
  • Experience with experimentation and measurement, including A/B testing, incrementality, or attribution
  • Working experience with Python, JavaScript, R, notebooks, or similar tools for analysis and automation, along with experience using AI to accelerate analysis, automate workflows, monitor products, or surface insights
  • Strong product intuition, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, with a resourceful and self-directed approach to ambiguity, prioritization, and independently identifying where Analytics should get involved
  • Excellent communicator and cross-functional partner who can simplify abstract or technical concepts, tailor the message to the audience, and turn analysis into a clear point of view

We have a strong preference for someone to be based in New York City, but open to remote on the East Coast.

The work in this role directly shapes how ShopMy builds, measures, and improves its products. This is foundational, high-impact work with meaningful autonomy, exposure across the full product portfolio, and the opportunity to define what excellent product analytics looks like as the company scales.
