What is remote data analysis?

Remote data analysis refers to the process of examining, interpreting, and drawing insights from data using digital tools, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Professionals in this field utilize statistical software, databases, and visualization tools to analyze large datasets and help organizations make informed decisions. Remote data analysts often collaborate with team members and stakeholders virtually, ensuring that data-driven strategies are implemented effectively. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings clearly.

How do remote data analysts typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders?

Remote data analysts often use a combination of communication and project management tools—such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom—to stay connected with colleagues and stakeholders. Regular virtual meetings, shared dashboards, and collaborative platforms enable them to discuss findings, gather requirements, and provide updates on ongoing projects. Clear documentation and proactive communication are essential to ensure alignment, especially when working across different time zones or departments. Building strong relationships with team members virtually can help streamline workflows and facilitate effective decision-making.

Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Business and Data Analyst who wants to help build something, not just run it. You will serve as a strategic analytics partner to business leaders across Flex Pay and the broader Upgrade commercial organization. That means owning executive-level deliverables, shaping how the team operates, and having a real say in where analytics goes next. You will transform complex data into clear, actionable insights, drive smarter decisions, improve operational performance, and shape business strategy through analytics.

What You'll Do:

Analytics and Business Intelligence

  • Conduct advanced data analysis, mining, and trend identification to surface meaningful business insights.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs, performance management frameworks, and data quality standards.
  • Perform root cause analysis, statistical hypothesis testing, and predictive and prescriptive analytics.
  • Own data governance and quality assessment practices.

SQL and Data Engineering

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries using CTEs, window functions, joins, and stored procedures.
  • Design and maintain data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data warehouse structures.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and transformation to ensure analytical accuracy.

Forecasting and Reporting

  • Measure and continuously improve forecast accuracy using trend analysis, seasonality analysis, and statistical methodologies.
  • Develop scenario models to support strategic decisions.
  • Design executive dashboards, scorecards, and interactive reports that tell a clear story.
  • Own QBR preparation and deliver findings directly to senior leadership, including the executive team. You will translate analytical work into business narratives that influence real decisions at the company level.
  • Build automated reporting solutions that scale across the organization.

Business Partnership and Executive Communication

  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, document processes, and align on priorities.
  • Present technical analysis to C-suite leaders as business narratives and strategic recommendations.
  • Facilitate meetings, lead cross-functional collaboration, and support change management initiatives.

What We Look For:

  • Advanced SQL proficiency including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
  • Experience with Tableau, Microsoft Excel, Redshift, and Databricks.
  • You use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT as a real part of your analytical workflow, not as a novelty. You know when to use them, how to verify their output, and how to integrate them into how you work.
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis, forecasting methodologies, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data warehouse design.
  • Skilled at connecting metrics to business outcomes and identifying key performance drivers.

What We Offer You:

  • Competitive salary
  • 100% paid coverage of medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Flexible PTO
  • Competitive 401(k)
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Paid parental leave
  • Health & wellness initiatives

The compensation range of this position in San Francisco, CA is USD $100,000-$125,000 plus equity and benefits. Within this range, an individual's pay will be dependent on a variety of factors, including without limitation, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
