They use statistical tools and techniques to identify patterns, trends, and insights within data sets, often presenting their findings through reports and visualizations. Data Analysts typically work with databases, spreadsheets, and specialized software to clean and interpret data, ensuring its accuracy and relevance. Their work supports decision-making across various departments, including marketing, finance, and operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data analyst 1, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Analyst 1, you need strong analytical skills, foundational knowledge of statistics, and a bachelor's degree in a related field such as mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with tools like Excel, SQL, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau or Power BI) is typically required, along with basic programming skills in Python or R. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting and presenting data insights. Job description

About Us

YipitData is the leading market research and analytics firm for the disruptive economy. Our proprietary technology analyzes billions of alternative data points to uncover actionable insights across sectors like Consumer Goods, AI & Software, Cloud, Payments, and more. The world's top investment funds and Fortune 500 companies depend on our data to drive high-stakes decisions.

We oerate globally with offices in the US, APAC, and India. Our award-winning, people-centric culture-recognized by Inc. as a Best Workplace for three consecutive years-emphasizes transparency, ownership, and continuous mastery.

What It's Like to Work Here

  • Ownership is real, not aspirational. An analyst here can own a data product end-to-end - from methodology to client delivery - and present directly to the investors who depend on it. You won't spend months waiting for "meaningful work."
  • Growth is driven by impact, not tenure. Scope and responsibility expand as fast as you can demonstrate you're ready. We promote based on what you've done, not how long you've been here.
  • AI is a core working tool, not a side project. We're actively rebuilding how analytical work gets done - using AI agents, automation, and new tooling to fundamentally change what's possible. If you're excited about that, you'll thrive here.

About the Role

You'll join one of our sector teams - covering industries like consumer goods, software, or financial services - where you'll own data products that help the world's top investors understand company performance, market trends, and competitive dynamics. Our sector teams are where the core analytical work happens: building and maintaining the data products that our clients depend on for high-stakes decisions.

As a Data Analyst, you'll ramp quickly onto a portfolio of data products, building deep expertise in our proprietary datasets and methodologies. You'll take full ownership of your products - ensuring accuracy, improving methodologies, and delivering insights that clients trust. Over time, you'll expand your scope: taking on more complex products, identifying opportunities to improve how your team works, and growing into a key contributor who shapes how we deliver value.

This is a role for someone who wants to go deep on hard analytical problems, takes pride in getting the details right, and is motivated by owning work that matters. You'll work closely with your Data Lead, Research Analysts, and cross-functional partners in Engineering and Product to deliver best-in-class outputs - and you'll be expected to bring ideas, not just execute on others'.

As a Data Analyst, you will:

  • Own data products end-to-end - driving product success by delivering best-in-class outputs with a focus on accuracy, client value, and efficiency. You'll ramp into full ownership of your products and workflows with increasing autonomy as you build expertise.
  • Work with massive amounts of data to answer our clients' key questions about the companies and datasets we analyze. You'll develop deep expertise in our proprietary methods and techniques, building strong mental models that allow you to ensure data accuracy, identify methodology gaps, and derive key insights.
  • Tackle complex data problems using strong analytical judgment to refine methodologies, test new datasets, and solve challenges that require creative thinking - even when information is incomplete or ambiguous.
  • Use AI and tooling to drive meaningful leverage - increasing speed, reducing manual work, and automating portions of workflows. You'll build repeatable processes, maintain a high bar for correctness and quality, and validate AI-generated outputs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Research, Engineering, and other teams - coordinating across functions to unblock work, align on best practices, and develop solutions that streamline workflows and optimize data processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve products and processes - whether that's refining a methodology, exploring a new dataset, or finding a better way to do something. Contribute ideas that improve how your team operates and how we deliver value to clients.

You Are Likely To Succeed If:

  • You have 3-5+ years of experience in data analytics, with a background in fields like financial services, management consulting, data science, or high-growth technology - or another environment where you worked with complex data to inform real decisions
  • You have strong fluency in SQL, with experience using Python or PySpark as a plus - particularly for building reusable analysis workflows or automations
  • You have a track record of quickly learning new concepts, particularly complex data methodologies, and building strong mental models of how and why data works
  • You have tackled complex analytical problems and taken ownership beyond your immediate scope - you don't wait to be told what matters, you figure it out and drive it forward
  • You can communicate complex concepts clearly - including methodology, risks, and tradeoffs - both in writing and in conversation with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You actively use AI tools and are excited about using AI to drive leverage - not just productivity, but fundamentally better and faster ways of working

What We Offer:

Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:

  • We care about your personal life, and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more!
  • Your growth at YipitData is determined by the impact that you are making, not by tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-improve, and master their skills in an environment focused on ownership, respect, and trust. See more on our high-impact, high-opportunity work environment above!
  • The annual base compensation for this position is anticipated to be $130K-$180K. The final offer may be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.

The total compensation package includes a mix of base, bonus, equity, and benefits
