Remote Cybersecurity Scrum Master information

What is a remote cybersecurity scrum master?

A Remote Cybersecurity Scrum Master is a professional who facilitates Agile Scrum processes within cybersecurity teams, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and securely while working remotely. They help coordinate tasks, remove obstacles, and promote collaboration among team members, focusing specifically on cybersecurity initiatives like threat assessment, incident response, or security software development. As the bridge between technical teams and project stakeholders, they ensure that cybersecurity goals align with business objectives, all while adapting to the unique challenges of remote work environments.

How does a remote cybersecurity scrum master facilitate collaboration between cybersecurity experts and software development teams?

A Remote Cybersecurity Scrum Master plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between cybersecurity specialists and software development teams by fostering open communication and ensuring security requirements are integrated into each sprint. They coordinate regular stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, making sure that security concerns are addressed early in the development process. By utilizing agile methodologies and digital collaboration tools, they help teams prioritize security tasks, resolve blockers, and encourage a culture of shared responsibility for secure development. This collaborative approach enhances both team efficiency and the security posture of delivered products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote cybersecurity scrum master, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Cybersecurity Scrum Master, you need expertise in agile methodologies, a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, and experience managing cross-functional teams, often supported by a bachelor's degree and Scrum Master certification (CSM or equivalent). Familiarity with agile project management tools (like Jira or Azure DevOps), secure development lifecycle frameworks, and cybersecurity compliance standards is crucial. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills help facilitate collaboration and ensure alignment despite physical distance. These skills are vital for driving secure, efficient project delivery and maintaining team cohesion in remote environments.

The Opportunity:
As a scrum master, you're passionate about outcomes and supporting a development team that's modernizing critical projects. You know the importance of Agile best practices and how to combat challenges early to get work done.
On this team you will support an Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) product delivery team following modern Agile ceremonies with sprint goals tracked in Jira and a 90% sprint-completion target. You'll apply Agile practices to support the Department of Veterans Affairs ICAM program, including prioritizing backlogs, Jira-based work management, iterative planning, and sprint execution, across every ICAM product team.
As an ICAM Scrum Master, you will facilitate sprint ceremonies, remove blockers, and help your product team, including Single Sign-On, Identity Governance and Administration, Privilege Access Management, Master Person Index, or Enterprise Workforce Directory, consistently hit its sprint-completion and roadmap-delivery commitments.
Apply today to help us deliver modern identity solutions that protect veterans, their data, and their access to critical VA services.
What You'll Work On:
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, or retrospectives for an assigned ICAM product team, tracking Sprint Goals in Jira.
  • Drive toward the program's 90% sprint-completion target and help maintain updated, prioritized product backlogs each sprint.
  • Identify and remove delivery blockers or dependencies in coordination with the Product Owner, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support product-level Risk Register maintenance and roadmap-milestone tracking.
  • Coordinate with other ICAM Scrum Masters and the Lead Scrum Master or Agile Coach on cross-team dependencies such as PAM-to-IGA integration sprints.
  • Leverage AI intelligently to drive efficiency and quality of output.
  • Automate tasks wherever appropriate.
  • Develop and consistently use ways of working which allow Agents and automated process to affectively assist.

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile facilitator in an IT or software delivery environment
  • Knowledge of Jira and Agile or Scrum ceremonies, artifacts, and metrics
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience facilitating Agile delivery for ICAM or cybersecurity products
  • Experience with scaled Agile frameworks (SAFe) in a federal environment
  • Experience using AI agents to build things, not just as chat assistants
