Job description

Writing Services Specialist

Do you excel at helping graduate learners find their scholarly voice? At The Art of Education University (AOEU), strong academic writing is foundational to graduate success. We're seeking a Writing Services Specialist who can provide individualized writing support, develop accessible self-service resources, and help graduate students write with clarity, confidence, and rigor.

In this role, you will deliver direct writing support to students through 1:1 consultations and course-embedded feedback, maintain a high-impact online writing center, and collaborate across the university to elevate academic voice and writing standards throughout our programs.

Structured as a remote part-time hourly position. This position requires regular availability during normal business hours (~10 hours/week) to collaborate with peers and regular evening and weekend availability (~10 hours/week) to support AOEU students. This role reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

We have been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible for remote work from the following locations: USA.

Job DetailsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Service and Support (90%) 

  • Conduct 1:1 meetings with graduate students to support academic writing and intervention.
  • Provide individualized written feedback to students.
  • Collaborate with graduate faculty and curriculum developers. 
  • Create relevant self-service options to support graduate writing skills and development.

Operations (10%)

  • Maintain systemic updates to the Writing Center.
  • Collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of the Writing Center and inform decision-making processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Since AOE operates in a fully remote/online environment, requirements include frequent and prolonged computer use and the ability to enter information into a computer using a keyboard or alternative input method. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills to provide feedback with tact and encouragement
  • Superior writing, proofreading skills, and an understanding of APA formatting
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to edit content across various digital platforms, including HubSpot, WordPress, and Google Suite
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
  • Teacher certification in English, Literature, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience providing writing instruction or academic writing support in higher education preferred.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

Master's degree required; emphasis in English or creative writing, preferred.

  • Technical Connection: A 60-minute Zoom with the hiring manager. We'll go deeper into the skills and day-to-day of the role, how you'd work with the team, and what you'd bring (and you'll get a chance to know your potential leader).
  • Project: A short, async assignment that reflects real work in the role. It's your opportunity to show your skills in action and helps us see the quality and thinking behind your work. We'll give you clear directions and scope upfront, but its designed to take less than an hour. 
  • Stakeholder Connection: A final 60-minute Zoom with the hiring manager and their leader or other collaborators. You'll walk us through your project, and we'll cover any final questions about the role, the team, and life at AOE.

For some roles, we may add a step or adjust slightly;  we'll always keep it streamlined and let you know what to expect.
