Summary
This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a Cook you will be responsible for providing wholesome meals to students at Haskell Indian Nations University.

As a Cook Cook WG-7404-5, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
  • Independently prepare and cook a variety of items for regular and therapeutic diets (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items
  • Prepare different types of food using varies methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill.
  • Cook foods to proper temperatures and maintain proper food temperatures during holding, re-heating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety.
  • Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables; set up and replenish a salad bar.
  • Make a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries.
  • Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular and modified menu items.
  • Cover, label, and date food items according to established policies and procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas and perform deep cleaning tasks when needed; sweep and mop floors; clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, work surfaces, tables and utensils; and clean kettles, ranges, ovens, and other equipment.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment and follows appropriate safety procedures.
  • Track students' meal plan usage by counting number of purchased dinners.

  • Driving Requirement (Required only at time of appointment): Incumbent may be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Maintain a Food Handler's Certificate (or equivalent certification) valid for the state where employed.
  • This position is restricted to lifting items that weigh less than 8 pounds.
  • The position is subject to shift rotation whenever required or as deemed necessary to meet full coverage of the cafeteria.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what the applicant can do against what the work calls for.
