Remote Conversation Design information

What is remote conversation design?

Remote conversation design is the process of creating, testing, and refining conversational interfaces—like chatbots or voice assistants—while working from a location outside of a traditional office. Conversation designers use tools to develop natural, user-friendly interactions that help users achieve their goals efficiently. This role often involves collaboration with developers, UX designers, and clients through virtual meetings and digital platforms. Remote conversation designers need strong communication skills, creativity, and expertise in language and user experience.

How does a remote conversation designer typically collaborate with product and engineering teams?

As a remote conversation designer, you’ll frequently partner with product managers, engineers, and UX researchers to create seamless conversational experiences. Collaboration usually involves regular video meetings, shared design tools, and asynchronous feedback cycles to ensure alignment on user flows and technical constraints. Clear documentation and proactive communication are essential for bridging the remote gap, allowing you to iterate quickly and address feedback efficiently. You may also participate in virtual workshops or design sprints to co-create solutions and refine conversational logic.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Conversation Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Conversation Designer, you need expertise in linguistics, UX writing, and user experience design, often supported by experience in designing chatbots or voice assistants. Familiarity with tools like Dialogflow, Voiceflow, or Botpress, and knowledge of prototyping and analytics platforms are typically required. Strong soft skills include empathy, creative problem-solving, and clear communication to effectively capture user intent and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure engaging, user-friendly conversational interfaces that meet both business and user needs in a remote work setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and evolve conversation design frameworks for AI-driven Ads experiences.

  • Translate design principles into system prompts and model instructions.

  • Use evaluation data and experimentation to iteratively improve language-driven model behavior.

Job description

Model Designer (Contingent) — Ads / AI Experiences

Client: Large Fortune 500 Enterprise

Duration: 6-month contract

Rate: ~$70-$75/hourly

Team: MAIBA — Business Experiences (Content Design / Model Design)

About the Role

We’re looking for a Model Designer to help shape the next generation of AI-driven Ads experiences for a large Fortune 500 enterprise client.

This is a unique opportunity at the intersection of content design, conversational UX, and AI systems. You’ll define what high-quality AI interactions look like—and translate that vision into the model instructions that drive real behavior.

This role blends strategy and execution. You won’t just follow specs—you’ll help create them, using evaluation data and experimentation to continuously improve how the model performs.

What You’ll Do

Define and evolve conversation design frameworks (tone, structure, clarity, actionability)

Translate design principles into system prompts and model instructions

Iteratively improve language-driven model behavior (responses, follow-ups, edge cases)

Use evaluation data (judge scores, testing results) to guide design decisions

Partner with Product, Engineering, and Design to align on quality standards

Test and dogfood model outputs to catch issues early

Work in a 4-week sprint cycle, continuously refining and improving performance

What We’re Looking For

Strong experince in content design, UX writing, or conversational design

Experience working with LLMs or prompt design (writing and iterating on prompts)

Ability to think end-to-end about user conversations, not just individual responses

Comfortable operating in ambiguity and defining “what good looks like”

Experience using data or evaluation signals to iterate and improve outcomes

Strong cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to Have

Experience in Ads or performance marketing

Experience in AI conversation design or model design

Familiarity with information architecture or structured content systems

Why This Role

You’ll help define an emerging discipline—model design—inside a large-scale enterprise environment. Your work will directly impact how AI systems communicate with advertisers, shaping both the user experience and model behavior at scale.
