Technical SME 

Enterprise Network Installation Support Field Operations Support 

Travel: Up to 25% as needed for training 

Position Overview 

The Junior Technical SME assists Senior Technical SMEs and field technicians with site conversions, installations, cutover support, and validation of enterprise network infrastructure at commercial locations nationwide - primarily active QSR and retail environments. 

This position is designed as a developmental role that provides hands-on experience supporting enterprise network deployments, while learning Essintial's Comcast deployment standards, technical processes, and remote support procedures. The Junior Technical SME will work closely with Senior Technical SMEs to support field technicians deploying managed firewalls, switches, wireless access points, cellular backup routers, and IP power management devices, while assisting with validation and documentation to ensure successful project execution. 

The ideal candidate is technically curious, detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate clearly with field technicians while learning to troubleshoot remote installation issues. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist Senior Technical SMEs in supporting field technicians during site installations, conversions, cutovers, and validation activities. 
  • Assist with planning, staging, racking, mounting, and installing cable enterprise network equipment - including firewalls (HA pairs), managed switches, wireless access points, cellular backup routers, and IP power controllers - per project wiring specifications. 
  • Monitor field technician progress, communicate schedule adherence, and deployment status to Senior Technical SMEs. 
  • Work alongside field technicians and Comcast EAC during structured network cutovers, while following established deployment procedures. 
  • Assist field technicians with pre- and post-installation validation, including running speed tests, verifying WAN failover, confirming VPN connectivity, and validating site-connected devices (POS, kiosks, printers, displays, payment terminals). Ensure required information is accurately updated within customer portals. 
  • Work through guided deployment tooling (web-based or software validation platforms) to complete configuration sections in sequence and identify issues requiring Senior SME assistance. 
  • Assist with documentation, quality checks, deployment records, and project tracking throughout each installation. 
  • Collaborate with Senior Technical SMEs and key personnel to continuously improve deployment documentation, training materials, and operational processes.

This position is intended to provide mentoring and hands-on development under the guidance of Senior Technical SMEs while building the technical and operational knowledge necessary for future advancement.
