This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role during a phase of financial strengthening and operational alignment.


Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations while serving as a strategic partner to operations and executive leadership.


The right candidate will not simply report financial resultsthey will improve project margins, strengthen forecasting accuracy, and enforce disciplined cash management.


This role is expected to modernize financial operations through automation, workflow redesign, and AI-enabled reporting.


The Controller will collaborate closely with operations and project teams based in California and the Pacific Northwest. The ability to support distributed teams across time zones while maintaining financial control and accountability is essential.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Work with external accounting firms to ensure GAAP compliance and uphold internal controls.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets.
  • Lead rolling forecasts (revenue, margin, overhead, and cash flow.
  • Deliver variance analysis with forward-looking insights.
  • Integrate project-level forecasts into company-wide cash planning.


Project Accounting & WIP Management

  • Complete job costing and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Manage WIP schedules and over/under billing analysis.
  • Partner with project managers to establish and monitor project budgets.
  • Identify and correct margin leakage early.
  • Improve profitability across telecom and development projects.


Cash Flow

  • Own and maintain a 13-week rolling cash forecast.
  • Manage cash positioning and working capital.
  • Improve AR cycle times and billing discipline.


AP/AR

  • Supervise AP and AR functions.
  • Work alongside the VP of Operations and President to conduct vendor negotiations, demonstrating both professionalism and strong emotional intelligence.
  • Work alongside the VP of Operations and President to structure terms with vendors.


Systems & Process Automation

  • Optimize accounting systems and reporting infrastructure.
  • Identify and implement AI-driven automation for:
    • Purchase Order workflows
    • AP processing and invoice matching
    • Cost coding and documentation controls
  • Strengthen KPI dashboards and reporting visibility.
  • Foundation software experience preferred but not required.


Operational Partnership

  • Act as financial partner to operations leadership.
  • Understand construction and site development as a customer and the nuances of telecom infrastructure timelines.
  • Partner with management teams to ensure consistent financial controls and margin accountability across regions.
  • Participate in job status and production meetings to drive financial discipline.


Presence & Financial Leadership Under Pressure

This role requires more than technical accounting expertise. The Controller must demonstrate executive maturity and leadership.

  • Foundation software experience preferred.
