Remote Contract Editing information

What is remote contract editing?

Remote contract editing involves reviewing, revising, and proofreading contracts and legal documents from a remote location, rather than working onsite. Professionals in this field ensure that contracts are clear, accurate, legally compliant, and free of errors. They may work independently or as part of a legal team, collaborating with clients and colleagues via email, video calls, or document-sharing platforms. Remote contract editors typically need a strong understanding of legal terminology and excellent attention to detail.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract editor?

To excel as a Remote Contract Editor, you need a strong grasp of language, grammar, and style guidelines, often supported by a relevant degree or professional editing experience. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and track changes, as well as knowledge of style guides such as APA or Chicago Manual of Style, is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for managing deadlines and client expectations remotely. These competencies ensure high-quality, error-free deliverables and reliable client relationships in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote contract editors, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote contract editors often face challenges such as coordinating with clients across different time zones, managing multiple deadlines simultaneously, and maintaining clear communication despite working virtually. To manage these effectively, it's important to establish a structured workflow, use collaborative editing tools, and schedule regular check-ins with clients or team members. Staying organized and setting clear expectations at the outset of each project can help ensure smooth collaboration and timely delivery.

Doctrine and Task Analyst, Mid
The Opportunity:
As a Defense Mission Professional, you know that effective doctrine is more than just text on a page. It requires research, structured analysis, collaboration, and disciplined processes to deliver authoritative guidance to the joint force. When combined with Universal Joint Tasks, it helps characterize unit function and readiness. We're looking for someone like you to help assess, develop, and maintain mission-critical joint doctrine publications and the Universal Joint Task List (UJTL) across the Joint Force's doctrine, education, terminology, and training communities.
Serving as a Doctrine and Task Analyst, you'll help develop, assess, and maintain joint doctrine that supports warfighter readiness and decision-making. Your role spans the full doctrine lifecycle, conducting analytical reviews, updating UJTL content, preparing briefings and read-ahead materials, supporting working groups, and collaborating with Joint Staff personnel, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Services, and doctrine communities. You'll also contribute to terminology and allied doctrine research, assist with editing and coordination in tools like Joint Doctrine Development Tool (JDDT), and help sustain key doctrine systems. Through your operational experience, communication skills, and analytical abilities, you'll ensure doctrine remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with joint force needs. Your work will directly contribute to doctrine products that shape readiness, operations, and education for the joint warfighter.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • Knowledge of Joint Staff structure, mission, and relationships with CCMDs, Services, and DoD agencies
  • Knowledge of Universal Joint Tasks (UJTs) and their relationship to joint doctrine
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles of joint doctrine and doctrine development processes
  • Knowledge of modern English grammar usage and ensuring consistency of data between documents
  • Knowledge of terms in the DoD dictionary and process for incorporating approved terminology changes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Associate's degree and 3+ years of experience with military operations, or 5+ years of experience with military operations in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience conducting doctrinal or operational analysis
  • Experience with online repositories and development tools such as the Joint Electronic Library, JDDT, and UJTL Task Development Tool
  • Experience supporting doctrine conferences, working groups, or publication processes
  • Experience with terminology or UJTL processes
  • Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to conduct research using Joint and Service Lessons Learned Systems
  • Possession of strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
