The Lead Content Developer creates high-quality English language content for the Secondary portfolio (teenagers/grades 6-12) within the Cengage | National Geographic Learning (NGL) Global English Language Learning (ELL) team. You are responsible for a project team on the development of all aspects of one or more major series, through all phases of development, in partnership with a Learning Designer, the Academic Design Manager, and the Sr. Director, Academic Design.

What you'll do here:

  • Collaborate with a Learning Designer, Portfolio Manager, senior management, authors, and experts to build a program that meets course learning objectives and solves customer issues.

  • In partnership with Operations, identify, hire, and manage freelance authors, editors, and editorial vendors.

  • With Learning Designers, develop content planning documents, guidelines, and prototypes for all components, including recommending innovative and effective pedagogical approaches based on market needs and feedback.

  • With Print and Digital Production and Academic Design Manager, develop plans for projects, including workflows, budgets, and schedules. Accurately and regularly estimate, plan, and communicate with team members and senior managers on project progress to ensure a timely, on-budget delivery of content.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external teams, including Production, Creative Studio, Operations, Digital, freelancers, and writers, training and assisting, as the program requires.

  • Continually improve understanding, skills, and display aptitude for new tasks; proactively identify and suggest areas for change or improvement within the project.

  • Build an environment that encourages a highly motivated, highly committed, fully engaged team.

  • Represent the Cengage Group Credo and Ethos in all actions and behaviors.

Skills you will need here:

  • BA/BS/CELTA degree

  • 8-10 years educational publishing, or equivalent teaching experience in ELL

  • Excellent project management experience, including budgeting and scheduling

  • Advanced editing, proofing, written, and verbal skills

  • Deep understanding of language learning pedagogy to make content decisions

  • Understanding of how to implement NGL brand and content design principles

  • Ability to help plan and follow a learning design plan

  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

In this position, you will be eligible to participate in the company'sdiscretionaryincentive bonus program. This position's bonus target amount, which is not guaranteed and is dependent on individual performance and overall company results among other factors, is provided below.
