About the Role

The Senior Content Strategist, Owned Media leads Blue Wheel's Organic Social practice while overseeing the production of owned media content across social, and other digital channels as assigned.

This role is responsible for translating marketing strategies into compelling content, managing editorial workflows, and serving as the primary Organic Social strategist for assigned clients.

As both a strategist and hands-on contributor, the Senior Content Strategist, Owned Media develops content plans, provides platform recommendations, leads Organic Social discussions with clients, manages editorial quality, and oversees day-to-day content production. This role supports Organic Social Specialists and freelance writing resources while collaborating closely with Lifecycle, SEO/GEO, Community Management, Creator, and Social Commerce teams.

The ideal candidate is a strong content marketer with expertise in Organic Social strategy, copywriting, editorial management, and light creative production. They are equally comfortable presenting recommendations to clients, coaching team members, writing high-impact content, and improving production processes.

Responsibilities

Organic Social Leadership

  • Serve as the strategic lead for Blue Wheel's Organic Social service offering.
  • Develop Organic Social recommendations, content strategies, platform best practices, and campaign concepts aligned with client objectives.
  • Present Organic Social strategies, performance insights, and recommendations during client meetings, quarterly business reviews, and planning sessions.
  • Develop paid amplification strategies for high-performing organic content, leveraging Meta Ads Manager and TikTok Ads Manager to boost posts that support follower growth, awareness, engagement, and other client objectives.
  • Stay informed on platform updates, content trends, emerging formats, and evolving best practices.

Content Strategy & Editorial Planning

  • Develop editorial calendars, messaging frameworks, and content across Organic Social, and other digital channels as assigned such as Email, SMS, SEO/GEO, blogs, and web content.
  • Partner with channel leads to translate business goals into actionable content plans and production schedules.
  • Create content that aligns messaging, audience insights, SEO recommendations, and channel requirements.

Writing & Editing

Write, edit, and proofread content across multiple owned channels, including:

  • Organic Social
  • Email and SMS
  • SEO & GEO content
  • Presentation content
  • Serve as the final editorial reviewer for owned media deliverables as assigned.

Team Leadership

  • Support Organic Social Specialists by providing coaching, workload management, feedback, and career development.
  • Coordinate freelance writers by assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring projects meet quality standards and deadlines.
  • Balance internal and freelance resources to support changing client priorities.

Editorial Operations

  • Own editorial workflows, production schedules, quality assurance, and content approvals.
  • Maintain content templates, editorial standards, and documentation to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline production through AI tools, process improvements, and reusable assets.

SEO & AI Search Content Support

  • Partner with the SEO/GEO team to review content production optimized for both traditional search and AI-powered discovery.
  • Incorporate keyword research, search intent, entity optimization, and AI search recommendations into content development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Creator Partnerships team, Lifecycle team, SEO/GEO team, Community Management, Creator Marketing, and Social Commerce teams to ensure messaging remains consistent across channels.
  • Support integrated campaigns by adapting messaging appropriately for each owned media channel.

Light Design

  • Create and modify simple branded assets using Canva, including:
  • Social graphics
  • Presentation visuals
  • Email imagery
  • Simple campaign assets
  • Content mockups
  • Collaborate with designers on larger design initiatives.

Performance Optimization

  • Review Organic Social and content performance with channel teams to identify trends, messaging opportunities, boosted post opportunities, and areas for optimization.
  • Apply learnings to future editorial planning and content recommendations.

What to Expect

  • During your first 30 days, you'll become familiar with Blue Wheel's clients, content processes, and Organic Social programs while beginning to manage editorial workflows and support ongoing client initiatives.
  • Within your first 60โ€“90 days, you'll independently lead the Organic Social practice for assigned clients, manage content production resources, present strategic recommendations, and oversee editorial quality across owned media channels as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in Organic Social, content marketing, copywriting, or digital marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience developing Organic Social strategies for brands.
  • Experience using Meta Ads Manager and TikTok Ads Manager to boost organic content and manage paid social amplification campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience presenting strategic recommendations to clients.
  • Experience managing editorial calendars and content workflows.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring writers or content creators.
  • Working knowledge of SEO content best practices.
  • Experience creating simple branded assets in Canva.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across clients and channels.

Preferred

  • Agency experience supporting multiple brands.
  • Experience with ecommerce, retail, beauty, or consumer brands.
  • Familiarity with GEO/AEO and AI-search content optimization.
  • Experience with Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar tools.
  • Experience collaborating with Lifecycle Marketing, Community Management, Creator Marketing, and Social Commerce teams.
