Overview

Medxcel is here to lead the transformation of healthcare facilities management by incorporating a new approach to providing services. Created by healthcare, for healthcare, we have a dedicated focus on our people and customers, as well as providing tools, processes, support resources, data analytics and insource strategies that drive results.

The Life Safety Code CAD Specialist II (LSCCS II) leads the consultation, education and technical assistance to Medxcel FM’s operations, Ascension Ministry and Commercial Facilities to ensure compliance with the CMS conditions of participation. As a subject matter expert, the LSCCS II must be able to recognize the regulatory, financial and interdepartmental impacts of life safety systems and assemblies in the management and general business operations of a healthcare facility. The LSCCS II develops engineered life safety drawings, determines and reports on non-compliance in a thorough, accurate manner to the operational administrators of Medxcel’s internal and commercial clients, remediating non-compliance where appropriate. The LSCCS II provides expert consultation to client Facility Operations leadership and the Manager of Facilities Drawings in the development of CMS, DNV, State or other AHJ-compliant life safety drawings, shares issues and provides potential resolutions in a professional manner to educate and bring about best possible service delivery.  Provides consultative support for facility projects as they relate to the facility master plan and life safety systems, maintaining master drawing and Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) database congruency.  Establish and maintain accurate drawing records and other facility data for program accreditation, assessment and reporting purposes. The LSCCS II is responsible for contributing to Medxcel Facilities Management’s (Medxcel FM) database of master AutoCAD drawings, utilizing due diligence to ensure accuracy and proper linkage to the CAFM system when applicable. The LSCCS II will review and follow Medxcel FM’s means of cataloging, standardizing and updating/modifying CAD drawings as required.  The LSCCS II will collaborate with CAFM staff in supporting the integrity of the CAD drawing library and for maintaining departmental space allocation data accuracy.

This position will be Remote. 


Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Act as customer-facing point of contact regarding engineered life safety drawings and associated regulatory requirements therein.
  • Perform initial review of existing life safety drawings for accuracy and code compliance.
  • Provide field support in updating regulatory life safety drawings based on current or future-state conditions.
  • Exercise independent judgement and leverage logic-based solutions to design or update life safety drawings for accuracy and code compliance based on their unique regulatory requirements.
  • Recognize the regulatory, operational and financial impacts of, and exercise discretion when, recommending or requiring changes to the drawings or built environment for program and AHJ compliance purposes.
  • Communicate changes to local Facility Operations departmental leadership and CO Compliance team(s).
  • Communicate potential space allocation issues to the CAFM team to maintain data integrity and client cost reporting accuracy.

 

CAD/Drawing Library Support

  • Support system processes & policies for updating CAD/CAFM drawings with evolving field conditions.
  • Ensure enterprise Drawing Library integrity when modifying or collecting engineered drawings.
  • Utilize CAFM software to ensure facility space data integrity as drawing changes are applied.
  • Ensure seamless delivery of associated drawings and findings to client facility administration.
  • Train & develop other associates.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Drafting or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
  • Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field preferred.

License/Certification:

  • NFPA Certified Life Safety Specialist for Healthcare (CLSS-HC) required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience, including education, preferably as it relates to architectural floor plan documentation required.
  • Experience with healthcare industry-related regulatory requirements or experience in commercial fire protection, building maintenance, building construction, architectural science, engineering, safety or related required.
  • Experience in Life Safety Code© and/or International Building Code© compliance activities required.
  • Experience working with large institutional or commercial facility drawings/floor plans required.
  • Experience in supporting CAD/BIM drawing libraries for multiple facilities preferred. 
  • Experience with Autodesk REVIT preferred. 
  • Experience with CAFM software such as FM Systems© or Archibus© preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of latest AutoCAD software required.
  • Must be able to recognize the regulatory and operational impacts of life safety assemblies and systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience with oversized printer(s)/plotter(s) & scanner(s) preferred.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment in a healthcare facility preferred.
  • Must posses the confidence necessary to act in a customer-facing consultant capacity.
  • Must be able to work independently & complete tasks at an appropriate pace with little supervision.
  • Effective time management skills (Capable of organizing individual tasks and managing personal time to complete assignments based on personal commitments).
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a matrix team environment.
  • Excellent communications and organization skills.
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respectful of all internal and external stakeholders and customers, without compromising in any way on the message that must be delivered.
  • Must be able to travel 60%-80% of the time (overnight travel required).

  • Field validation work requirements:
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walking lengthy distances, lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling, kneeling, and pushing in order to adequately inspect and observe all facilities life safety protective features;
    • Must be able to examine hard-to-reach areas such as utility spaces, mechanical rooms and penthouses;
    • Must be able to climb over or under pipes, ductwork or other obstructions.
