Remote Computer Vision Postdoc information

What are some common challenges faced by remote Computer Vision Postdocs, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Computer Vision Postdocs often encounter challenges related to collaboration and access to computational resources. Since much of the work involves large datasets and high-performance computing, ensuring secure and efficient remote access to servers and data is crucial. Effective communication with mentors and team members, often across different time zones, requires proficiency with collaboration tools and proactive scheduling. To address these challenges, it can be helpful to establish regular check-ins, document workflows clearly, and leverage cloud-based platforms for data processing and code sharing.

What is a Remote Computer Vision Postdoc?

A Remote Computer Vision Postdoc is a research position for individuals who have recently completed their Ph.D. and are specializing in the field of computer vision, all while working remotely. These postdoctoral researchers typically conduct advanced studies on topics such as image recognition, object detection, and machine learning algorithms, often collaborating with academic institutions or industry labs. The remote aspect allows for flexible work locations, making it possible to join international teams and contribute to projects from anywhere in the world. This role often emphasizes publishing research, developing prototypes, and contributing to open-source projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Computer Vision Postdoc, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Computer Vision Postdoc, you need a solid background in computer vision, machine learning, and programming, typically supported by a PhD in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), coding languages like Python or C++, and experience with large-scale data processing are essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in collaborative, research-driven environments. These competencies ensure you can independently advance research objectives, contribute innovative solutions, and work efficiently with distributed teams.

Job description

ABOUT DURANTA & WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
ย
Duranta is an applied research lab actively redefining how industries interact with the physical world through Artificial Spatial Intelligence. Our flagship foundation computer vision model, Aidan, measures and understands the world in 4D. Duranta's founding team have built unicorns, had successful exits and published groundbreaking research within the field of computer vision. We are seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join our team.ย
ย
We are a seed-stage startup building cutting-edge computer vision and generative modeling systems to understand the physical world from aerial and oblique imagery. Our team includes award winning engineers and scientists (Forbes AI 50, CVPR, SIGGRAPH) with backgrounds from Stanford, UC Berkeley, CMU, EPFL, NYU, ASU and University of Toronto. We're working on developing a modular, scalable ML pipeline to power broad geospatial intelligence.ย
ย
You will work closely with the founding team on deep learning research and deployment across semantic and instance segmentation, few-shot learning, 3D reasoning and generative modeling. Specifically, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of our computer vision pipelines for extracting comprehensive intelligence from aerial imagery.
RESPONSIBILITIES & FOCUS AREAS
  • Building the components of a state-of-the-art computer vision pipeline for our AI system
  • Build and improve CV models (e.g., Mask2Former, SAM, ViT, Swin) for aerial and oblique imagery
  • Run experiments at scale with deep learning frameworks like PyTorchย
  • Develop and maintain clean, modular ML infrastructure
  • Collaborate on model deployment and inference optimizations
  • Read and reproduce ideas from latest papers (CVPR, NeurIPS and other similar top-tier venues)
YOU WILL THRIVE IF YOU HAVE
  • Have 5+ years experience in ML / deep learning, ideally in Computer Vision
  • Have strong coding ability (Python, PyTorch)ย
  • Have trained segmentation/detection models on real-world data at scale
  • Have experience with generative modeling and large foundation models
  • Have worked in startups or fast-moving teams and can wear many hats
AND FOR EXTRA CREDIT...
  • Experience with high-res aerial/remote sensing imagery and LiDAR
  • Experience with self-supervised and weakly-supervised learning
  • Knowledge of 3D, CAD and computer graphics
  • Experience with cloud computing (e.g., AWS)
DURANTA VALUES
  • API = Assume Positive Intent. The company, the relationship with co-workers and customers, and life is so much better and more fun if you follow this rule.
  • Speed is the essence. We are in a hurry to make a difference.
  • Expect Peak Performance. We strive for excellence and empower those around us to do the same.
  • Build something beautiful. A beautiful product, a beautiful company, and a more beautiful world.
$160,000 - $250,000 a year
+ equity
ย
Note: Base salary & equity will depend largely on leveling.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
