POSITION SPECIFICS
The College of Medicine is seeking a Financial Business Intelligence Analyst to support the Controller's Office by developing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise reporting and analytics solutions focused on financial operations and labor distribution. This position serves as a technical and financial resource responsible for transforming complex institutional data into actionable reporting solutions using Power BI, SQL, and related analytics tools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, semantic models, and visualizations supporting labor distribution, effort reporting, financial operations, and sponsored research administration.
  • Develop complex DAX measures, KPIs, calculated tables, and scalable reporting solutions using business intelligence best practices.
  • Build and maintain data transformation and ETL processes using Power Query, SQL, and related tools to integrate data from finance, HR, ERP, and research administration systems.
  • Analyze labor and financial transactions to ensure reporting accuracy and perform reconciliations between reporting outputs and source systems, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring reporting processes, improve performance, and strengthen data quality and governance standards.
  • Collaborate with finance, research administration, HR, faculty affairs, and departmental leadership to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Apply accounting and financial systems knowledge, including general ledger structure, cost centers, debits, and credits, to support accurate reporting and analytics development.
  • Perform testing, validation, and quality assurance for dashboards, reports, and datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Provide end-user support, troubleshooting, documentation, and training related to dashboards, reporting tools, and data interpretation.
  • Support data governance, security, and confidentiality requirements, including appropriate access controls and row-level security where applicable.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading or independently managing complex business intelligence solutions, including advanced data modeling, dashboard architecture, ETL development, and cross-functional analytics support.
  • Ability to consult with stakeholders, drive reporting improvements, and deliver scalable analytics solutions in a complex organizational environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing dashboards and data models in Microsoft Power BI.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, Power Query, DAX, and data transformation techniques.
  • Experience with financial reporting, labor reporting, reconciliation, or accounting data.
  • Understanding of data governance, validation, testing, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, or similarly complex regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of sponsored research administration, effort reporting, or related institutional reporting processes.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential or similar financial/accounting background is a plus.
