Job Summary

TestPros is seeking a qualified consultant to ensure its websites and mobile applications comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards as mandated by the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) 2024 final rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This project aims to improve digital accessibility for individuals with disabilities and align the digital platforms with federal accessibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accessibility Audits:
    Execute comprehensive audits for websites and mobile applications, ensuring adherence to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
    The SME will run an automated and a manual audit. Manual testing of web pages requires physical navigating pages through normal use as well as using assistive technology. (We use Chrome with JAWS for manual testing. The automatic testing is done with AMP and AXE. By this audit we will uncover all the Section 508 non-compliant instances including):

    • Alternative text for images
    • Keyboard navigation
    • Sufficient color contrast
    • Transcripts for audio/video content
    • Use of color
    • Text resizing
    • Logical focus order
    • Error handling
    • Name role and value for custom controls
  • Issue Identification & Prioritization:
    Detect areas of non-compliance, prioritize remediation efforts, and propose actionable recommendations.

  • Reporting:
    Develop thorough reports that detail audit findings and offer clear, context-specific recommendations for improvement. SAR, ACE, VPAT

  • Collaboration:
    Partner with IT teams to evaluate the current digital environment and address existing accessibility gaps.


Required Qualifications

Proven Experience:

  • Extensive expertise in conducting web accessibility audits using WCAG 2.1 guidelines.
  • Proven track record of auditing websites and mobile applications to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

Client Scoping Experience:

  • Experience working directly with clients to define project scope, gather requirements, establish clear objectives, and manage deliverables for successful project outcomes.

Manual & Automated Reporting Expertise:

  • Manual Reporting:

    • Hands-On Testing:
      • Proficient in manually testing interfaces, including navigating websites using only a keyboard, utilizing screen readers, and evaluating visual contrast and other usability factors.
    • Nuanced Insight:
      • Ability to identify subtle issues that automated tools might miss, leveraging critical thinking and a deep understanding of user experiences.
    • Custom Reporting:
      • Skilled in compiling comprehensive, detailed reports that capture context-specific observations and recommendations.
  • Automated Testing Experience:

    • Familiarity with industry-standard accessibility testing tools (e.g., WAVE, Axe, JAWS, NVDA) to complement manual testing practices.

Regulatory Knowledge:

  • A deep understanding of the ADAโ€™s final rule and its implications, particularly for state and local governments.

Communication Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with the skill to explain technical details effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Strong analytical capabilities with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex accessibility challenges.

Project Management:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment, ensuring timely completion and effective collaboration with diverse teams.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is preferred.
