Salary Range: The full pay range for this role is $107,200 to $178,600ย annually, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $128,610 to $150,045ย annually. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

Scope of Job:ย ISO Compliance Specialist oversees regulatory compliance for all U.S. independent system operators and regional transmission organizations. An Independent System Operator (ISO)ย isย a neutral, federally regulated organization that coordinates, controls, and monitors the operation of the electrical power system within a single state or region. The primary focus is ERCOT, though the role covers PJM, MISO, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, and ISO-NE. This fully remote position requires expertise in market rules and protocols to ensure company compliance across multiple ISO/RTO markets.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the company's primary subject matter expert for ERCOT compliance, including nodal protocols, operating procedures, settlement processes, and market guides.
  • Tracks and reports rule changes in all U.S. ISO/RTO markets, focusing on ERCOT; evaluate business effects of PRRs and stakeholder developments.
  • Develops and maintains internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls tailored to each ISO/RTO in which the company participates.
  • Conducts regular internal audits and gap analyses across trading, scheduling, settlements, and operations functions for multi-market compliance exposure.
  • Manages all required filings, notifications, and reports to ERCOT, PUCT, FERC, and other applicable regulatory bodies on time and with accuracy.
  • Serves as primary liaison for ERCOT Market Surveillance, PUCT enforcement inquiries, and NERC/Regional Entity audit activities.
  • Coordinates cross-market compliance calendars and risk registers, ensuring obligations across all ISO/RTO footprints are tracked and met.
  • Designs and delivers compliance training programs for operational, trading, and scheduling staff across all relevant markets.
  • Collaborates with legal, finance, and operations teams to embed compliance requirements into new market strategies, products, and systems.
  • Participates in ISO/RTO stakeholder meetings and working groups, particularly within ERCOT, representing the company's interests in rulemaking processes.
  • Prepares executive-level compliance reporting and escalate material risks to leadership in a clear, timely manner. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision of Others: No direct supervisory duties. Will need to manage consultants and contractors when needed

Working Conditions:

95% of time is spent in the office environment utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 5% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors' and/or internal customers' sites in addition to attending various conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of regulatory compliance experience within U.S. ISO/RTO wholesale energy markets, with demonstrated ERCOT expertise as a primary requirement.
  • Experience with PUCT regulations and the Texas wholesale and retail energy market structure.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of ERCOT nodal protocols, market rules, QSE/LSE obligations, ancillary services, and settlement processes.
  • Working knowledge of at least one additional ISO/RTO (PJM, MISO, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, or ISO-NE) market rules and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with applicable NERC Reliability Standards (FAC, BAL, IRO, TOP, COM, and related series) and their applicability to generation, transmission, and market participants.
  • Hands-on experience responding to ERCOT enforcement inquiries and preparing mitigation plans.
  • Multi-ISO/RTO compliance experience across two or more markets simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT's nodal settlement system.
  • Experience using compliance management tools.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-market compliance workstreams independently in a remote, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to regulatory detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable translating complex regulatory requirements for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively as a self-directed remote employee, with strong time management and virtual collaboration skills.

Must be able to sit or stand at computer for a reasonable length of time typing and reading. Regularly required to walk or stand. 100% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment.ย
