Job Type: Full-time
Classification: Exempt
Pay: $125,000 - $175,000, based on qualifications and experience
Physical Setting/work location: Columbia, MD. This position is primarily based in our Columbia office; hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered based on experience and business needs.
Clearance Level: This position requires extensive experience working within SCI-access environments and a demonstrated understanding of the U.S. Intelligence Community and defense acquisition ecosystem. Candidates who have maintained SCI eligibility and operated within these environments for approximately ten years or more are strongly preferred.
Vorbeck is seeking a Director, Business Development - Signal Technologies to lead growth initiatives for our Signal Technologies division. This role is responsible for identifying, developing, and expanding business opportunities within the Department of War (DoW) research and acquisition organizations (example: NIWC Pacific, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Army Program Executive Office Ground Combat Systems) and within the US Intelligence Community (IC).
The ideal candidate will work closely with Vorbeck's engineering, product development, and leadership teams to position Vorbeck's advanced conformal antennas, EMI shielding solutions, and graphene-enabled products with DoW and IC customers, as well as industrial partners.
  • Business Development & Growth Strategy: Identify and pursue new opportunities offering Vorbeck the highest probability of win within the DoW, IC, and with industrial partners. Maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities that support the company's growth objectives.
  • Customer & Relationship Management: Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with DoW and IC acquisition leaders. Identify and develop relationships with industrial partners whose missions and objectives align with Vorbeck's innovative technologies. Become a trusted resource and primary point of contact for DoW and IC acquisition leaders and industrial partners.
  • Opportunity Identification & Capture: Discover, qualify, and pursue high probability of win opportunities from initial engagement through contract award. Monitor market trends, DoW and IC needs, procurement activities, and emerging opportunities to support long-term business growth.
  • Technical Sales Support: Maintain a detailed understanding of Vorbeck's innovative technologies. Be able to offer accurate cost-savings data available to DoW and IC clients if they choose Vorbeck's technologies. Be able to explain these advantages to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proposal & Business Development Support: Lead writing and development of proposals, presentations, white papers, technical responses, and other business development materials in collaboration with Vorbeck's engineering and leadership teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Product Development, Operations, and Leadership teams to align customer requirements, business opportunities, and product capabilities. Provide customer and market feedback to support product development and strategic planning efforts.
  • Industry Engagement: Represent Vorbeck at industry conferences, trade shows, customer meetings, and networking events to strengthen market presence, expand industry relationships, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement & Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, customer feedback, and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities and support strategic business decisions. Identify Vorbeck technologies that would benefit from publication in trade and technical journals trusted by the DoW and IC. Ensure articles about these technologies get published.
  • Other Responsibilities: Support additional business development, sales, and strategic growth initiatives as assigned.
  • Travel (Expected): 25-50%.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field preferred. Candidates with a combination of graduate education, military service, Intelligence Community (IC) experience, and business development experience are strongly preferred. Candidates with extensive military or IC experience may be viewed more favorably than those with graduate education and limited practical experience alone.

Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, DoW or IC sales, account management, or a related customer-facing role.
  • 5+ years' experience working with or within DoW, the IC, or defense contractors supporting the DoW or the IC .
  • Experience working with the U.S. Government agencies, defense contractors, aerospace organizations, or related technology-focused markets.
  • 5+ years' experience identifying, qualifying, and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Proven success collaborating with technical teams to support customer engagements and business growth initiatives.
  • Experience supporting proposal development and RFI responses is required. Experience limited solely to capture management without demonstrated business development responsibilities may not be sufficient for this role.
