The Job

The Communications Manager collaborates with organizational leadership, the philanthropy team, and key staff to develop and execute high-impact communications initiatives that bring the Center for Community Solutions' (CCS) mission, vision, and impact to life while increasing awareness, engagement, and support among current and prospective funders. The ideal candidate will capture the narrative of our largely confidential work and translate it into clear and compelling content, inspiring calls to action and increasing financial support of our mission to help survivors and prevent assault in our communities.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement an effective multi-channel communications strategy to reach prospective and current donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, community groups, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Create and share a communications calendar to ensure strategic engagement and stewardship of donors.
  • Lead compelling fundraising and campaign communication strategies that optimize donor acquisition and retention.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external contributors to curate, refine, and publish high-impact content customized to resonate with distinct donor segments and fundraising goals.
  • Write clear, compelling stories and testimonials, contributed content, cases for support, and letters to donors.
  • Develop and maintain donation acknowledgment letter templates, program descriptions, and messaging, including selecting appropriate quotes and content. Oversee writing of annual report in partnership with key staff agencywide for factual content and graphics.
  • Develop and manage philanthropic partnerships, including event sponsors, foundations, and community groups.
  • Steward the CCS brand and ensure unified communications by staff to support organizational objectives.
  • Increase awareness and engagement with CCS programs by developing and maintaining digital content that strengthens the organization’s online presence, reflects brand standards, and is optimized for search and social media performance. Identifies strategic social media engagement opportunities for CCS Executives and Board members while maintaining curated targeted lists of key stakeholder accounts.
  • Manage corporate outreach and communications that build individual and whole company engagement.
  • Develops and executes marketing, social media, and communications strategies for the annual Tea & Tonic fundraiser, fundraising campaigns, and other agency events.
  • Partners with the Donor Relations Coordinator on event execution and logistics, representing the organization and fulfilling key operational roles.

What You Bring:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Experience:
• Three (3) or more years in managing digital communication campaigns, public relations, or marketing, with a proven track record in campaign execution and content strategy.
• Two (2) or more years of experience planning and marketing events, fundraising initiatives, and/or sales campaigns.
• Three (3) or more years of experience creating and managing digital communications, including email marketing, social media content, and engagement strategies across multiple platforms.
• Proven ability to design and execute multi-channel communication strategies that engage and resonate with distinct audiences.
• Strong track record of translating complex organizational concepts into compelling, accessible narrative content.
• Demonstrated success in project management, with a proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines, lead cross-functional teams, and deliver results.

Preferred Education & Experience:
• Master’s degree in Communications or Public Relations preferred.
• Five (5) or more years of demonstrated success in non-profit fundraising events and campaigns.
• Four (4) or more years of experience managing marketing budgets and relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, and vendors.
• Strong research and analytical skills related to public health, public policy, environmental issues, and community advocacy.
• Bilingual/Multilingual fluency of one or more languages (Written and Oral).
• Familiarity with anti-violence frameworks and experience working alongside vulnerable communities.

Core Competencies:
• Excellent written, presentation, oral communications and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
• Experience with WordPress, Constant Contact, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, DonorPerfect or other CRMs and other cloud-based collaboration systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Maintain confidentiality and respectful communication at all times.

Working Environment:
Hybrid-model eligible after demonstrated operational proficiency; schedule to be determined in coordination and approval by supervisor. This job operates in a professional office environment. Some outreach and off-site activities will be held in other locations, as requested. Must maintain personal cellphone for work-related purposes. Must have reliable internet capabilities and a confidential, professional environment when working remotely. Working conditions may include possible exposure to communicable diseases related to those typically found in social services settings. Incumbent must reside in California and within a 75-mile radius of the City of San Diego.

Ability to work in Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking fields.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to carry up to 20lbs.

Travel:
Approximately 20% travel within San Diego County may be required. Must have consistent and reliable transportation.

Work Hours:

Generally, working hours of Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Requires some early morning, evening, and weekend availability for events and/or donor relations needs.
