Job description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Database Administrator (Mid-Level) to support the daily operational management, security compliance, and performance optimization of our relational cloud database infrastructure. In this role, you will focus on maintaining high availability, executing mandated security patching, and ensuring system stability across all production, sustainment, and training environments.

As a core member of a lean, self-directed engineering team, you will handle routine database lifecycles and administrative tasks, working alongside our Senior Database Operations Engineer to eliminate single operational points of failure, deploy automated telemetry feeds, and maintain containerized database utility tools.

Work includes:

·         Cloud Infrastructure & Compute: Hands-on experience administering relational databases within the AWS ecosystem, specifically Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora), Amazon EC2, and serverless container platforms (AWS Fargate/ECS).

·         Containerization: Proficiency writing Docker files, managing container images, and deploying isolated runtime environments using Docker.

·         Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting capabilities in Python and Bash for parsing log data, managing API calls, and automating routine data-extraction schedules.

·         Database Management Tools: Proficiency using tools like DBeaver or DbSchema for daily object management, schema visualization, and script execution.

·         Monitoring & Compliance: Experience monitoring database health and tracking infrastructure metrics using AWS CloudWatch and security scanning frameworks.

·         Version Control: Familiarity with tracking script histories and utilizing Git repositories within standard environments like Visual Studio.

Key Responsibilities

·         Operational Database Administration: Manage the day-to-day operations, configuration, and remote administration of relational cloud database engines to guarantee performance and stability.

·         Process Automation & Dashboard Telemetry: Script and maintain automated pipelines using Python and Bash to extract log summaries, process error trends, and feed status dashboards to ensure leadership visibility into system health.

·         Containerized Environment Deployment: Maintain and deploy database utility containers, utilizing Docker blueprints to securely run automation scripts and isolated task workloads within cloud infrastructure environments.

·         Maintenance Schedule Execution: Track, schedule, and execute routine administrative lifecycles, including database engine version monitoring, minor updates, and mandatory security password rotations.

·         Patch Execution & Compliance: Apply critical database patches, minor hotfixes, and vendor updates, ensuring thorough compliance with standard quarterly security patching windows.

·         Security & STIG Hardening: Review, audit, and configure database environments to ensure they are strictly locked down in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Air Force Instructions.

·         Documentation & Asset Upkeep: Maintain up-to-date documentation on database configurations, user access roles, Ports, Protocols, and Services Management (PPSM) logs, and internal wiki procedures.

Qualifications:

·         Must be a U.S. Citizen; Work Visa is not eligible

·         Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years of direct experience in database administration (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

·         Security Clearance: Must hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
