Job description

About Pivotal Health

Pivotal Health is the leading technology platform that helps healthcare providers get paid fairly in an increasingly complex reimbursement landscape.

Today, many providers face persistent underpayment from health insurance companies, despite delivering high-quality care. While processes like IDR (Independent Dispute Resolution) were designed to promote fairness, theyโ€™re often administrative-heavy, time-consuming, and difficult to navigate without the right tools.

Pivotal Health combines software, data, and service into a seamlessly integrated, AI-driven platform that simplifies these complex reimbursement workflows. We help providers efficiently dispute underpaid claims, reduce administrative burden, and recover the reimbursement theyโ€™re entitled to; without adding more work to already stretched teams.

Our full-service IDR solution is just the starting point. Weโ€™re building solutions that enable providers to operate with clarity, control, and confidence across the reimbursement journey.

About The Role

Pivotal Health is investing in modern healthcare data infrastructure as a strategic capability. We are building a state-of-the-art healthcare data platform that ingests, processes, and organizes complex healthcare information into trusted data assets. This role will lead the design and development of foundational platform capabilities that ensure data is reliable, scalable, secure, and accessible across the organization.

As a Staff Software Engineer focused on Data Warehouse infrastructure, you will architect the services, pipelines, and platform capabilities that power our healthcare data ecosystem. You'll work on ingestion frameworks, warehouse architecture, orchestration systems, metadata management, and data access patterns that enable both analytics and AI-driven applications.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys building foundational platforms that become critical company infrastructure. You'll have significant influence over architecture, technology choices, and long-term platform strategy while working on meaningful problems in healthcare.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Own warehouse platform architecture. Design and evolve the systems that support storage, transformation, governance, and access across clinical datasets.

  • Build scalable data infrastructure. Develop a secure and compliant warehouse infrastructure.

  • Healthcare-specific data modeling: Design and build clinical data models inside a scalable warehouse solution.

  • Design warehouse optimization strategies. Create data models and storage approaches that balance performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Establish data governance frameworks. Implement controls that ensure data quality, consistency, security, and auditability.

  • Enable downstream analytics and AI workloads. Build infrastructure that supports reporting, evidence generation, and machine learning applications.

  • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives. Partner with engineering, analytics, and product teams to align platform capabilities with business priorities.

  • Improve platform observability and reliability. Build monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling that ensures trust in critical data systems.

Who You Are
  • 8+ years building distributed software systems or large-scale data platforms.

  • Experience in healthcare, health tech, or regulated data environments.

  • Experience architecting modern cloud-based data warehouse solutions.

  • Strong proficiency in backend engineering and platform development.

  • Deep understanding of data modeling in a healthcare/clinical data setting, storage architecture, and data lifecycle management.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, or similar backend languages.

  • Proven track record in implementing zero trust PHI architectures.

  • Experience designing systems that support both operational and analytical workloads.

  • Track record of leading technical initiatives spanning multiple teams.

  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with an ability to balance short-term execution and long-term scalability.

  • Demonstrated ownership of critical infrastructure in high-growth environments.

Nice To Haves
  • Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning data platform requirements.

This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.*

Why Youโ€™ll Love Working Here

Weโ€™re a collaborative, low-ego team on a mission to make healthcare reimbursement fairer for providers. While we primarily hire around our core hubsโ€“Los Angeles and New Yorkโ€“we remain open to exceptional talent outside those regions. Remote and hybrid flexibility varies by role and team, and is outlined in each job description.

If youโ€™re excited by solving complex problems and making a real-world impact, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

Benefits Include:

  • Competitive compensation, including equity

  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Retirement savings plan through 401(k)

  • Flexible time off

  • Opportunities for company-wide connection and events

Ready to Make an Impact?
Weโ€™re building something meaningful; and we want you on the team.

Bring your ideas, curiosity, and drive, and letโ€™s transform healthcare reimbursement together.
