What is a remote claims consultant?

A Remote Claims Consultant is a professional who evaluates, processes, and manages insurance claims while working remotely. They review claim details, verify policy coverage, assess damages or losses, and communicate with policyholders, adjusters, and other stakeholders. Their goal is to ensure fair and accurate claim settlements while preventing fraud and maintaining compliance with policies and regulations. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

Effective time management, attention to detail, and proactive communication with clients and team members are key to overcoming these hurdles. Additionally, support from supervisors and access to collaborative online platforms help ensure remote consultants remain connected and informed.

  • Support claim handlers in overseeing contractors or subcontractors on construction projects to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
  • Conduct site visits and standard audits with claim handlers.
  • Identify issues on jobsites and contribute to practical solutions to minimize delays and cost impacts.
  • Review and interpret project requirements (technical, contractual, schedule, and budget).
  • Support the surety team in assisting contractors to integrate and coordinate their activities on projects under the responsibility of the surety.
  • Participate or lead site/project meetings and oversee or prepare regular status reports to communicate project progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with the claims team, including outside counsel and consultants.
  • Develop relationships with outside consultants throughout the US.
  • Prepare reports of findings in clear, concise, and easy-to-understand terms.
  • Work with other operational sectors of the organization including the Underwriting team.
  • Travel will be required.

The expertise you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Engineer.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering consulting firm or relevant experience in construction (experience in public construction contracts is a plus).
  • Communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Desire and ability to work in a team and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage priorities, autonomous, and ease of adaptation in changing context.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively using oral and written communication in various forms including video.
  • Must be able to work both independently, as a member of a team, and can interact with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other systems utilized by the department.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy and follow-through on commitments.
  • Requires the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to follow work instructions as directed.
