A Remote Civil Service job is a government position that allows employees to work from home or another location outside of a traditional office. These roles cover various fields, such as administration, IT, finance, and customer service, while still supporting public sector operations. Remote civil service jobs often require compliance with government policies on cybersecurity, data protection, and work performance. Employees may need to attend occasional in-person meetings or training sessions.

What does a typical workday look like for someone in a remote civil service position?

A typical day in a Remote Civil Service role often involves responding to public inquiries, preparing reports or policy documents, and participating in virtual meetings or team briefings. You may also be tasked with managing digital records, coordinating projects using online workflow tools, and ensuring compliance with agency regulations. Collaboration with colleagues and supervisors occurs primarily through email, instant messaging, and video conferencing platforms. This structure allows for a flexible schedule while maintaining the high standards and accountability expected in public sector work.

These skills and qualifications ensure seamless service delivery, effective team collaboration, and consistent fulfillment of public sector responsibilities from a remote setting.

What is the easiest remote civil service job to get?

At Penn E&R, we empower professionals to create lasting, positive impact through environmental remediation, civil engineering design, and regulatory guidance that protect ecosystems, restore land, and improve infrastructure. Bring your creativity, resourcefulness, and drive to Penn E&R, where every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and lead. Ready to take on what's next? Let's make it happen together!
Based in Pennsylvania, we are seeking a strategic remote hire in the state of New York to support regional growth across this targeted state market. This role is ideal for a senior-level civil/site engineer who has progressed through hands-on technical work and is ready to leverage that experience in a client-facing, growth-oriented position.
You will act as a senior technical representative in-market, helping expand our presence, win new work, and support client relationships - while remaining fully remote and closely integrated with our internal teams.
Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • P.E. a plus
  • Approximately 8+ years of professional experience (mid- to senior-level)
  • Hands-on experience including, but not limited to:
    • Civil/site design
    • Grading
    • Civil 3D
  • Demonstrated technical credibility to support client-facing activities
  • A career path that reflects having "come up through the ranks"
  • Highly self-driven and self-starting
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
  • Able to balance client relationships, technical execution (with internal support), and eventually business development activities

Company Support & Resources
We will provide you with the tools and support needed for success, including:
  • Company laptop, docking station, and dual monitors
  • Cell phone
  • Transportation support:
    • Vehicle stipend for personal vehicle or
    • Company car for business-related use
  • Support from Pennsylvania based teams

Integration & Communication
We place a strong emphasis on avoiding "remote isolation." This role includes:
  • Participation in weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings
  • Approximately 15 standing meetings throughout the year
  • Regular communication with executive leadership
  • Clear executive-level visibility and support

We know that great work happens when people feel supported both on and off the job. That's why we offer balance and benefits that support you.
  • Competitive compensation and performance-based bonuses
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits
  • Generous paid time off
  • A strong commitment to field and office safety
  • A stable, growing company
