KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Draft, research, and argue all aspects of law and motion practice, including motions for summary judgment/adjudication, demurrers, motions to dismiss, motions to strike, and discovery motions.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, and other research platforms to support litigation strategy and motion practice.
  • Analyze pleadings, deposition transcripts, expert reports, and documentary evidence to develop compelling motion arguments.
  • Prepare opposition and reply briefs in response to plaintiff's motions, including oppositions to class certification, motions in limine, and evidentiary challenges.
  • Attend and argue hearings on all law and motion matters in state and federal court.
  • Collaborate with lead trial attorneys and case teams to develop and execute overall litigation strategy.
  • Manage multiple briefing deadlines simultaneously across an active caseload in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Review and respond to meet-and-confer correspondence related to discovery disputes and pre-motion requirements.
  • Mentor junior associates on motion drafting, legal research techniques, and procedural strategy.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable California Code of Civil Procedure, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and local court rules.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing with the AZ state bar
  • Minimum 3–7 years of civil litigation experience with a heavy emphasis on law and motion practice.
  • Demonstrated experience representing defendants in civil matters, including insurance defense, general liability, or professional liability.
  • Exceptional legal writing skills with a track record of successful motions at both the trial and appellate levels.

Preferred
  • Prior clerkship experience with a state or federal court judge.
  • Experience with complex multi-party litigation or class action defense.
  • Familiarity with insurance coverage issues and reservation of rights analysis.
