Remote Chip Design Jobs in Ohio (NOW HIRING)

Remote Chip Design information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote chip design roles, and how can they be managed?

Remote chip design professionals often encounter challenges such as coordinating across time zones, ensuring secure access to proprietary design tools, and maintaining effective communication with cross-functional teams. To manage these, it's important to establish clear collaboration protocols, use secure cloud-based design platforms, and set regular check-ins with team members. Successful remote designers also prioritize documentation and proactive communication to keep projects on track and aligned with overall goals.

What is remote chip design?

Remote chip design refers to the process of designing integrated circuits (ICs) or semiconductor chips while working from a location outside of a traditional office or lab environment. Professionals in this field use specialized software and collaborate with teams online to create, test, and verify chip designs. Advances in cloud-based design tools and secure data sharing have made it possible for engineers to contribute to chip development projects from anywhere in the world. This flexibility allows companies to tap into a global talent pool and enables engineers to maintain a better work-life balance. Remote chip design is becoming increasingly popular in the semiconductor industry.

What is the difference between Remote Chip Design vs Remote ASIC Design?

AspectRemote Chip DesignRemote ASIC Design
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or Computer EngineeringBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
Work EnvironmentDesigning integrated circuits, often in collaborative teams, using CAD toolsDesigning custom ASICs, involving detailed specifications and verification processes
Industry UsageSemiconductor companies, hardware firms, tech giantsSemiconductor companies, specialized hardware firms, tech industry
Search & Comparison IntentHigh overlap in skills and tools, often compared for job roles in chip development

Remote Chip Design and Remote ASIC Design share similar educational backgrounds and work environments, focusing on integrated circuit development. While both roles involve hardware design, ASIC Design emphasizes custom chip creation for specific applications, often requiring detailed verification. Candidates should have strong engineering fundamentals and experience with CAD tools. The roles are highly comparable, with differences mainly in project scope and specialization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Chip Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Chip Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, digital and analog circuit design, and a relevant degree such as BSEE or MSEE. Expertise in hardware description languages (HDLs) like Verilog or VHDL, familiarity with EDA tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys), and knowledge of FPGA or ASIC workflows are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication stand out as vital soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams. These capabilities ensure efficient design cycles, high-quality deliverables, and seamless teamwork in a remote engineering environment.

This dual-focused role combines strategic OEM business development and identifying thermal services opportunities while building engineering relationships with technical services leadership across the full OEM engagement lifecycle. You'll develop new business by positioning Vertiv's liquid cooling portfolio as the preferred thermal management solution for next-generation OEM server platforms while ensuring successful implementation, integration support, and ongoing service delivery of Direct-to-Chip cooling, CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit) solutions, and hybrid cooling architectures. Collaborate with OEM engineering teams, Thermal Engineering and Product Management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OEM Thermal Services Business Development & Partnership Management (50%)
  • Identify and develop strategic thermal services opportunities with OEM manufacturers (HPE, Dell, Lenovo, Supermicro) focusing on multi-year service agreements, commissioning contracts, fluid management programs, and maintenance partnerships for liquid-cooled AI/ML and HPC server platforms
  • Build robust pipeline of OEM thermal services including deployment support contracts, thermal validation services, training certifications, field service partnerships, and performance optimization engagements
  • Establish service-focused relationships with OEM service organizations, thermal engineering teams, and supply chain leaders to become preferred thermal services partner for liquid-cooled platform deployments
  • Conduct service requirement workshops with OEM teams to understand deployment challenges, field service capabilities, training needs, and develop comprehensive thermal services proposals including service value propositions, uptime improvement models, and ROI justifications
  • Lead service sales cycles from initial engagement through pilot programs and enterprise service agreements, negotiating service pricing, SLA commitments, geographic coverage, response times, and performance metrics
  • Track OEM server roadmaps and service delivery models to proactively position Vertiv thermal services for upcoming platform launches and identify opportunities to embed services into OEM warranty programs, extended service contracts, and managed services solutions

OEM Technical Services & Integration Support (50%)
  • Design, quote, and deliver end-to-end thermal services programs including system commissioning, thermal performance validation, fluid quality management, preventive maintenance schedules, emergency repair services, performance monitoring, and optimization programs for OEM liquid-cooled server deployments
  • Manage fluid lifecycle services including coolant specification and procurement, initial system fill, routine fluid testing (pH, conductivity, inhibitor levels, metals analysis), fluid replacement programs, and proper disposal services ensuring optimal thermal performance and corrosion protection
  • Deliver preventive maintenance programs including scheduled CDU inspections, pump performance monitoring, filter replacements, thermal interface material assessments, leak detection system checks, and annual thermal performance audits
  • Create comprehensive service documentation including commissioning reports, fluid analysis records, maintenance logs, performance trend analysis, and optimization recommendations for OEM customers and internal tracking
  • Establish service delivery standards and quality metrics including commissioning checklists, acceptance criteria, fluid quality specifications, response time commitments, and customer satisfaction measurements
  • Act as technical escalation point for complex thermal service issues including performance degradation, coolant contamination, leak events, thermal runaway conditions, and system failures requiring root cause analysis and corrective action plans
  • Coordinate field service delivery resources including scheduling service technicians, managing spare parts inventory, coordinating third-party fluid management partners (Chemtec, Dow, etc.), and ensuring timely execution of service commitments

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
