Chief Medical Officer
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) position represents a new and unique opportunity for a highly accomplished clinical executive with deep clinical expertise, executive leadership experience, strong improvement scientific capability, global healthcare insight, and sound business judgment to influence health care at scale-advancing IHI's mission while shaping the future of quality, safety, and equity in health systems and hospitals worldwide.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CMO will shape and advance IHI's clinical vision and strategy, ensuring that its programs, research, and solutions are grounded in scientific excellence and deliver measurable improvements in health safety, quality, and equity. They will translate complex clinical evidence and emerging trends into actionable strategies that drive innovation and strengthen IHI's global impact, and they will represent IHI on national and international stages, cultivating relationships with healthcare leaders, policymakers, researchers, partners, and customers around the world.
In addition, the CMO will play a critical role in shaping organizational growth, partnering across the enterprise to align clinical expertise with strategic priorities, support business development efforts, and expand IHI's reach through new partnerships and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have earned an MD, MD/PhD, DO, or equivalent, have demonstrated expertise in improvement science, and be board certified with an active, unrestricted license to practice.
