How much do remote chemical engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 18, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote chemical engineering in Michigan is $76,253.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $58,800.00 and $92,800.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you work remotely as a Chemical Engineer?

Yes, many chemical engineering roles can be performed remotely, especially those involving design, analysis, and computer-based tasks. However, positions requiring laboratory work, plant supervision, or on-site inspections typically require physical presence. Remote work opportunities often depend on the employer, project requirements, and the engineer's skills with digital tools and software.

What is a Remote Chemical Engineering job?

A remote chemical engineering job involves applying chemical engineering principles to projects, research, or process optimization while working off-site. Engineers in these roles may focus on simulations, data analysis, product development, or consulting using digital tools. Common industries include pharmaceuticals, energy, and materials science. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential since work is conducted virtually with teams or clients.

Can you make 300k as a Chemical Engineer?

Earning $300,000 as a chemical engineer is possible but typically requires extensive experience, advanced specialization, management roles, or working in high-paying industries such as oil and gas or pharmaceuticals. Most chemical engineers earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, with top earners in senior positions or with significant expertise reaching higher salaries. Achieving a $300,000 salary often involves leadership responsibilities, advanced degrees, or working in regions with higher compensation standards.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior chemical engineers with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and specialized skills in process optimization or management can earn $300,000 or more annually. High-level roles in industries like oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, or specialty chemicals, often requiring leadership responsibilities and advanced certifications, are more likely to reach this compensation level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Chemical Engineering position, and why are they important?

Strong foundations in chemical engineering principles, process design, and data analysis are essential, typically backed by a bachelor's or higher degree in chemical engineering. Familiarity with simulation software such as Aspen Plus, MATLAB, and various remote collaboration tools is frequently required, along with relevant certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in some cases. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help remote chemical engineers excel at managing projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and delivering results independently. These proficiencies enable remote engineers to effectively solve complex engineering problems while collaborating seamlessly in a distributed work environment.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior chemical engineers with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and specialized skills in process optimization or management can earn salaries approaching or exceeding $500,000 annually, especially in high-paying industries like pharmaceuticals or petrochemicals. Achieving this level often requires leadership roles, bonuses, and stock options in addition to base salary.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote chemical engineers, and how are they addressed?

Remote chemical engineers often face challenges related to communication, real-time collaboration, and accessing on-site data or equipment. To address these, companies usually implement robust virtual collaboration platforms, remote monitoring systems, and regular video meetings to keep everyone aligned. Successful remote engineers proactively clarify project expectations, organize their workflow, and maintain open communication with colleagues across various departments. This ensures effective project execution and minimizes misunderstandings despite the physical distance from manufacturing sites or research facilities.

At Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG), we believe that science and innovation can improve lives and create a more sustainable world. As a global leader in advanced materials and polymer solutions, our technologies touch virtually every industry - from automotive to electronics, consumer goods to medical devices.
The Technical Service Engineer (TSE) position provides key technical process support and bridges the gap between application development and product development functions as well as customer needs and commercial strategies for both our automotive and non-automotive businesses. The TSE is responsible for supporting the growth and development of the MCG North American businesses by providing technical assistance and innovation to customers on part design, tooling, processing and troubleshooting resolution, and materials selection utilizing the various MCG product portfolio. Support covers a variety of processing types, including injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and other related methods.
What You'll Do
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to automotive OEMs, Tier suppliers and other key non-automotive accounts supporting MCG product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with customers to identify material requirements and recommend suitable polymer solutions.
  • Assist in the design and validation of polymer applications for both automotive systems ( e.g., under-the-hood, interior, exterior, and electrical components) as well as consumer, BICE or medical applications.
  • Support product trials, molding evaluations, secondary operations and performance testing.
  • Analyze failure modes and propose corrective actions, design improvements or alternative materials.
  • Work closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to tailor products for specific automotive requirements and support resin approval and specification activities as required.

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, process documentation, test results, and application notes.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Product Management to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Provide support to ADE functions in regard to design reviews, part optimization, tool design, and mold flow analysis to ensure manufacturability and performance.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes impacting automotive polymers.
  • Champion safety standards and regulatory compliance, both internally and at customer sites.

What You Bring
Your background demonstrates both technical expertise and a passion for collaboration. You're just as comfortable on the plant floor as you are in front of a customer, translating complex material science into actionable solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (highly preferred) in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical service, application development, or product engineering within the polymer or automotive industry (required with degree).
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of directly relevant experience in polymer materials, processing, or application development is required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer locations, technical centers, and conferences across North America
  • Working knowledge of CAD files, STEP models, mold flow, warpage, and shrinkage analysis.
  • Strong understanding of plastic part design, processing techniques ( injection molding, blow molding, extrusion ), and resin performance characteristics in order to support customer activities.
  • Customer oriented and focus. Capability in communicating position with suggestions for changes and improvements and getting others to adopt them in difficult and challenging situations.
  • Familiarity with OEM and Tier 1/2 supplier standards and specifications, with ability to support new product approval activities.
  • Facilitate proactive technical visits to customer facilities to maintain strong relationships with factory leadership.
  • Respond to customer concerns or complaints, providing technical assistance in the field or virtually to support timely resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills required for the following areas: verbal, technical writing, presenting, creating call reports, detailing/initiation of instructions and effective communication of product guidelines for use of our PPD resin portfolio.
  • Support product recommendations for new applications based on design and the end use requirements in balancing MCG capabilities with our customer needs. Also, develop expert resin knowledge to support formulation development for new products working in conjunction with the R&D teams.
  • Experience managing multi-phase customer projects from concept through commercialization; with coordination, setting priorities and time management skills to keep them on track and meet internal/external goals.
