Job Summary:

The Arch Catastrophe Analytics team is looking to add a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst to our dynamic and growing team. This role would work closely with senior leadership, underwriters and actuarial teams across Arch Insurance to develop solutions for natural and man-made catastrophes. Team members will have high level of visibility while delivering project outputs directly to C-suite members. Candidatesshouldbe self-starters, with strong data skills who are looking to be creative and ready to take on any task put in front of them.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform validationof hazardand vulnerability components of the major peril models and evaluate new modelsand datasets

  • Examine model version change

  • Develop the Arch View of Risk framework for use across the organization

  • Evaluate 3rdparty dataand develop standards for use across business units

  • Lead catastrophe model validation projects on geophysical peril and support the team with other perils

  • Run catastrophe models to quantify risk and financial impact

  • Perform sensitivity testing and collaborate with research partners to validate and enhance modelling solutions

  • Translate external scientific research into business-impacting practices

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in seismology / earthquake / civil engineering or a similar discipline

  • 5+ years of catastrophe modeling experience

  • Expertise in at least one catastrophe model vendor platforms (such as RMS, Verisk, KCC)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a proven track record of communicating effectively with stakeholders at various levels, with technical and non-technical backgrounds

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret modelled loss estimates

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SQL

  • Knowledge of one programming language (such as Python, R Studio)

  • Self-motivated with capability to work in a team, or independently, and ability to prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Grad level degree in in seismology / earthquake / civil engineering or a similar discipline

  • Experience with Python, R Studio and geospatial tools (ESRI/QGIS)

  • Knowledge of commercial (re)insurance terms

  • Knowledge of Global Earthquake Model (GEM)

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$118,000 - $135,000 /yr

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
