About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join its growing legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is passionate about defending employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in complex workers' compensation matters while working in a collaborative and professional environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience handling California workers' compensation defense cases from inception through resolution, possess strong advocacy skills, and be capable of independently managing a busy caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full caseload of California workers' compensation defense matters from assignment through resolution.

  • Represent employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators before the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).

  • Conduct depositions of applicants, physicians, and expert witnesses.

  • Prepare and argue motions, petitions, and other legal pleadings before the WCAB.

  • Evaluate claims, analyze exposure, and develop effective litigation and settlement strategies.

  • Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, and lien conferences.

  • Provide clients with timely legal advice, case evaluations, and regular status updates.

  • Conduct legal research and prepare well-supported legal memoranda and briefs.

  • Collaborate with claims professionals, investigators, medical experts, and support staff to efficiently manage cases.

  • Maintain accurate case files while ensuring compliance with California workers' compensation laws and procedural deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.

  • Prior experience handling California Workers' Compensation Defense matters.

  • Experience representing employers, insurance carriers, or third-party administrators preferred.
