Position Title: Sr. Category Manager - Meijer & Kohls

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (preferred), Chicago, IL, or Remote

Reports to: Director, Category Management

Job Summary:

The Senior Category Manager will act as a category expert by providing best in class category and shopper insights and actionable go-to-market recommendations. This individual will be responsible for analyzing various data sources, identifying business insights, and recommending solutions that drive profitable category growth. In this non-NDA position, the Senior Category Manager will work closely with retailer buyers and the Newell sales team to develop and grow total category sales by leveraging syndicated data, shopper and consumer insights, category, and industry trends. The Senior Category Manager will work cross-functionally to influence Newell's comprehensive category growth strategies focused on shopper centricity, enabling greater sell-through and market share gains. This position works as a strategic thought leader, imparting knowledge of the category and shopper to drive profitable business results.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for the channel and customer by providing thought leadership guidance to internal constituents and external customer decision makers
  • Serve as the expert on the use of syndicated data to assist sales and business segment leads into making well informed decisions from actionable insights
  • Generate weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting to provide insights, identify opportunities and deliver solutions that drive profitable category growth
  • Understand business drivers to influence joint business plan activities
  • Leverage learnings from cross functional counterparts (e.g., Category Development, Consumer Insight, Sales Planning, etc.) to deliver impactful recommendations to the sales team
  • Influence the line review process with shopper insights and data to make recommendations on optimal assortment, plan-o-gram space allocation and flow
  • Form a perspective on multi-channel purchasing behaviors (e.g., site to store, store to site, etc.)
  • Monitor channel shifting and the associated trends reflected in the marketplace
  • Develop presentations and present to the buyer and key stakeholders (e.g., business reviews, line reviews, product/segment deep dives, shopper insights, etc.)

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (emphasis in business/marketing or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience working with a leading consumer goods company (Category Management, Shopper Insights or related position)
  • 5+ years' experience in category management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of category management philosophies, tools, and processes, and proven record of success
  • Ability to build strong sustainable working relationships with the customer, and cross-functionally within Newell (Sales, Marketing and Insights)
  • Strategic thinking, self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines
  • Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
  • High level of expertise with syndicated data metrics, software, and loyalty data (e.g., NPD, IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, Dunnhumby, 84.51)
  • Prior experience analyzing retailer shopper data and presenting key findings and recommendations to senior level executives
  • Proven ability to analyze and identify insights from a combination of data sources
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management, follow-up, organizational, communication and presentation skills

The Remote base pay range for this position is from $127,300 to $175,100. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position.
