TITLE: Industrial Systems Engineer (Smart Factory / IIoT)

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

SUPERVISES: 1 Tech

JOB CLASS: Exempt

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

The role is responsible for maintaining and improving the Ignition MES / SCADA system and its integrations across the manufacturing ecosystem, including Power BI, SAP, AMR systems, and automated production lines. Ignition serves as the central hub for connecting PLCs, APIs, and databases to ensure reliable data flow and system performance to support daily operations and decision-making.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own troubleshooting and resolution of MES/SCADA system issues that impact production (data flow, connectivity, and system performance)
  • Manage data visualization throughout the manufacturing floor
  • displays and network infrastructure running reliably and performing well by coordinating with IT
  • Work with facilities and PLC technicians to ensure machines are properly connected and sending accurate data to Ignition
  • Work closely with operators and team leads to identify issues and improve how MES supports day-to-day operations
  • Drive the adoption and switch over to the Ignition system throughout the manufacturing floor
  • Create new ideas for machine automated data collection to replace manually input data systems
  • Utilize MES data to identify opportunities to improve manufacturing
  • Build and maintain reports and dashboards in Excel and PowerBi for easy management of data analysis while optimizing data queries and refresh rates to avoid unnecessary strain on the database systems
  • Test out and provide feedback on new Ignition MES features
  • Be willing to improve Ignition MES/SCADA platform to drive Smart Factory initiatives
  • Help lead digital transformation at the Newell Brands Maryville, TN plant
  • Own integration and operational reliability between AMRs and manufacturing systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, IT, or another technical field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to Industry 4.0, automation or digital manufacturing systems
  • Hands-on experience with MES/Scada systems in a manufacturing environment (Ignition or similar platforms preferred)
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technologies
  • Stay abreast of technology trends and innovations
  • Experience working with data using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and SQL-based data sources
  • Experience working with query languages (PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server preferred)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages (Python, Jython, or Java preferred. Familiarity with JSON is a plus)
  • Experience integrating systems across manufacturing environments such as APIs, PLCs, and databases

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred 
  • Technical degree preferred
