Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Food Service Manager position. This position is based out of New Lisbon Correctional Institution in New Lisbon, WI (Juneau County).
Position Summary
The Food Service Manager is responsible for assisting the Food Service Administrator in the management of the Food Service program at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution (NLCI).
This position provides direct supervision, training and evaluation of Corrections Food Service Leaders and resident workers involved in the production and distribution of approximately 3,300 meals per day in a large-scale food service operation.
Also, the position provides oversight of area uniformed security staff and staff assistance to the Food Service Administrator in managing the day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department within security guidelines.
This position assumes overall responsibility for the Food Service operations in the absence of the Food Service Administrator.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 81-04 with a starting pay of $30.00/hour - $37.17/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details
An employee hired into this position must obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
This position is FLSA Exempt.
Anticipated schedule will be Monday - Friday 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM.
This position will also have on-call responsibilities which may include, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Food service employee in this classification must have the ability to work up to 14 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand and move freely. This role will prepare food and inspect sanitation, which involves manipulating fine objects, operating appliances, and lifting freely up to 50 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience producing large quantity meals and scheduling meal production to meet a scheduled meal time (including tasks such as: meal plans, standardized recipes, quality/portion control, waste control, etc.)
  • Experience maintaining cleanliness, ensuring food safety, and monitoring compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Experience performing supervision or lead-worker activities such as coordinating work activities, hiring, assigning/directing/evaluating work, providing training, developing and implementing policies and procedures, etc.
