No Brag, Just Fact!
Over the last decade, we set out to be the world's greatest dialysis company, and over the next decade, we're poised to build the greatest healthcare community the world has ever seen. When you join the DaVita Village, you're joining a winning team. Through our commitment to training, growth and quality, we consistently achieve superior clinical outcomes while giving teammates the opportunity to excel in an award-winning environment that enables them to thrive both professionally and personally.
Position Overview

  • Job Title: Business Development Director (BDD)
  • Department: Team Pegasus (Corporate Development & Growth)
  • Location: Remote; assigned regional territory encompassing approximately 50% of DaVita's Titan Operating Group footprint across the Mid-Atlantic and Upper South (spanning MD, DC, DE, VA, NC, KY, and WV). Final sub-regional territory and divisional alignment will be determined based on candidate profile, expertise, and geographic location.
  • Travel: Approximately 30%-50% regional travel

About Team Pegasus

Team Pegasus serves as DaVita's dedicated growth and business development engine, driving physician alignment, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions, and market development across the country. As a Business Development Director, you will serve as the strategic growth leader, deal originator, and acquisition driver for an assigned regional portfolio covering approximately half of DaVita's Titan Operating Group (encompassing major markets across MD, DC, DE, VA, NC, KY, and WV). In close partnership with operational leadership, you will design and execute data-driven market strategies, actively identify, source, and execute acquisitions, build lasting relationships with nephrologists and health systems, and navigate complex transactions to expand care across the community.

1. Acquisition Origination & Deal Execution

  • Target Sourcing & Pipeline Management: Proactively identify, originate, and build a robust pipeline of acquisition opportunities (independent dialysis clinics, physician practice assets, and joint venture opportunities) across assigned geographies.
  • Transaction Execution: Lead deals through the entire transaction lifecycle-from initial target outreach, preliminary financial analysis, and due diligence through LOI negotiation, deal structuring, and definitive agreements in close partnership with Deal Depot and Corporate Development.
  • Deal Navigation & Closing: Anticipate and resolve roadblocks (physician dynamics, regulatory hurdles including CON, valuation complexities) to ensure timely and accretive deal closures.

2. Market Growth Strategy & Intelligence

  • Divisional Strategy & Goal Setting: Develop and execute multi-year growth plans for assigned divisions and markets to achieve targeted census growth, market share, and clinical reach.
  • Market Analytics & Mapping: Conduct in-depth market scans, whitespace assessments, and physician supply/demand analyses to identify high-impact expansion opportunities.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor and evaluate competitor activity, market consolidation, and shifting provider affiliations, translating insights into proactive growth countermeasures.

3. Physician & Health System Partnerships

  • Nephrology Relationship Development: Cultivate trusted, high-impact relationships with independent nephrology groups, health system leaders, and key practice decision-makers.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Governance: Source and structure physician alignment models, including Medical Director Agreements (MDAs), Joint Ventures (JVs), and Value-Based Care (VBC) arrangements.
  • Executive Framing & Influence: Tailor strategic messaging and business rationale to external clinical leaders, aligning physician practice goals with DaVita's clinical and operational capabilities.

4. Operational Partnership & Matrix Leadership

  • Field Partnership: Collaborate seamlessly with Division Vice Presidents (DVPs), Regional Operations Directors (RODs), Field Strategy, and Finance partners to integrate growth plans into local operating rhythms.
  • Coaching & Upskilling: Act as a subject matter expert and coach for operational peers building collective capability around physician engagement and growth dynamics.
  • Cross-Lane Alignment: Lead through influence across clinical, legal, regulatory, and finance lanes to align internal stakeholders around deal execution and strategic priorities.

5. Culture, Compliance & Initiative Leadership

  • Lead the DaVita Way: Champion DaVita's core values (Service Excellence, Integrity, Team, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Fulfillment, and Fun), fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Compliance & Partner Selection: Ensure strict adherence to DaVita's healthcare compliance standards, partner selection criteria, and regulatory mandates across all deals and provider interactions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify market-level operational or growth friction points, develop innovative solutions, and actively contribute to national Pegasus initiatives and strategic workstreams.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MHA, or equivalent master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in healthcare business development, corporate development/M&A, healthcare management consulting, physician practice management, or healthcare operations.
  • Acquisition & Deal Track Record: Demonstrated success originating, evaluating, negotiating, and closing healthcare transactions, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong commercial and financial competence, including experience analyzing pro formas, deal models, and P&L dynamics.
  • Strategic Influence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build immediate credibility with C-suite executives, physician leaders, and internal executive partners.
  • Results Orientation: High degree of self-direction, resourcefulness, and resilience in navigating long-cycle, multi-stakeholder deals.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel 30%-50% within assigned multi-state territory for partner meetings, physician dinners, and clinic visits.

Here is what you can expect when you join our Village:

  • A "community first, company second" culture based on Core Values that really matter.
  • Clinical outcomes consistently ranked above the national average.
  • Award-winning education and training across multiple career paths to help you reach your potential.
