What is a remote business continuity disaster recovery professional?

A Remote Business Continuity Disaster Recovery (BCDR) professional is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining plans and procedures to ensure a company can continue its critical operations during and after disruptions, such as natural disasters or cyberattacks. Working remotely, they coordinate risk assessments, test recovery plans, and provide guidance to ensure the organization is prepared for unforeseen events. Their role is crucial in minimizing downtime, protecting data, and ensuring business resilience, especially in environments where teams and infrastructure are distributed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote business continuity disaster recovery professional?

To thrive as a Remote Business Continuity Disaster Recovery professional, you need expertise in risk assessment, business impact analysis, and continuity planning, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in IT or a related field. Job description

Role Summary

This is a modern, hands-on infrastructure leader who runs a cloud-first environment (Microsoft Azure required), manages corporate IT and endpoints (laptops, identity, and device management), and coordinates managed service providers (MSPs) and third-party cloud/data-center partners such as Flexential. The role pairs strong technical depth with disciplined cost management, including responsibility for AI tooling, token consumption, and cloud budgets. Security and compliance are core to the position: the ideal candidate has demonstrated experience implementing Zero Trust architecture and supporting compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, StateRAMP or FedRAMP, and ISO 27001. Familiarity with AI governance and data governance is strongly desired. This is a remote position; candidates in or near Memphis, TN are preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own the design, operation, and reliability of Intellivo's cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including networking, compute, identity, and platform services.
  • Manage corporate IT and end-user computing: laptop/endpoint lifecycle, provisioning, MDM, identity and access management, and help-desk operations.
  • Manage relationships and SLAs with MSPs and third-party cloud and data-center providers such as Flexential, holding partners accountable for performance, uptime, and cost.
  • Own infrastructure and cloud budgets, including forecasting, cost optimization, and vendor spend management.
  • Manage AI tooling, token consumption, and associated budgets, establishing usage policies, monitoring, and cost controls across AI services.
  • Implement and maintain Zero Trust security architecture across identity, devices, network, and workloads.
  • Lead and support compliance efforts across frameworks such as SOC 2, StateRAMP or FedRAMP, and ISO 27001, including evidence collection, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Establish and enforce data governance and AI governance practices, including data classification, access controls, retention, and responsible AI usage.
  • Define and maintain infrastructure security controls: endpoint protection, patching, logging and monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Develop and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure resilience of critical systems and data.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and operations (e.g., Infrastructure as Code, scripting, CI/CD) to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, and business leaders to align infrastructure roadmap, capacity, and risk posture with company objectives.
  • Track and report on infrastructure health, security posture, cost, and compliance status to leadership.

Key Deliverables for 2026

  • A well-governed, cost-optimized Azure environment with clear ownership, monitoring, and documented architecture.
  • Mature Zero Trust implementation across identity, endpoints, and network access.
  • Audit-ready posture for the company's target compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2 and StateRAMP/FedRAMP or ISO 27001).
  • Established AI and data governance policies with active cost controls on AI tooling and token usage.
  • Effective MSP and third-party provider management with defined SLAs and measurable performance.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 8+ years in IT infrastructure, cloud operations, or a related field, including 3+ years in a lead or management role.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (required), including networking, identity (Entra ID), and core platform services.
  • Proven experience managing corporate IT and endpoint fleets (laptops, MDM, identity, and access management).
  • Demonstrated experience managing MSPs and third-party cloud/data-center providers such as Flexential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cloud, infrastructure, and AI tooling/token budgets with a focus on cost optimization.
  • Hands-on experience implementing Zero Trust architecture and infrastructure security controls.
  • Experience supporting compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, StateRAMP or FedRAMP, and ISO 27001.
  • Familiarity with AI governance and data governance practices strongly desired.

Required Competencies

  • Deep technical expertise in cloud infrastructure (Azure) and modern IT operations.
  • Strong security mindset with practical knowledge of Zero Trust and compliance controls.
  • Solid vendor and budget management skills, able to hold MSPs and providers accountable.
  • Ability to balance reliability, security, and cost while moving quickly.
  • Strong automation orientation (IaC, scripting) to drive operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to report clearly to technical and business audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt and govern AI tools responsibly, including cost and usage controls.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

License/Certification

  • Microsoft Azure certification (e.g., AZ-104 or AZ-305) strongly preferred.
  • Security certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, or Azure Security Engineer) preferred.
  • Compliance/audit certification (e.g., ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor) a plus.

Preferred

  • Experience in a regulated or high-compliance environment (e.g., FedRAMP/StateRAMP or healthcare IT).
  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid environments alongside primary Azure.
  • Experience with SIEM, EDR, and modern security operations tooling.
  • Experience defining AI governance and data governance in a growing organization.
  • Located in or near Memphis, TN.
