What is a remote business analytics professor?

Remote business analytics professors are educators who teach business analytics courses online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They design and deliver curriculum covering topics like data analysis, statistical modeling, and business intelligence, often using virtual platforms. These professors may work for universities, colleges, or online education providers, and they support students in mastering analytical tools and methods relevant to business decision-making. The remote format allows them to reach a wider audience and often provides flexible learning options for students.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote business analytics professor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Business Analytics Professor, you need expertise in statistics, data analysis, and business concepts, usually supported by an advanced degree (such as a PhD or Master's) in business analytics or a related field. Familiarity with analytics tools like R, Python, SQL, Excel, and learning management systems (LMS) is typically required, along with relevant teaching experience or certifications. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and the ability to engage students virtually are vital soft skills for effectively delivering complex material. These competencies ensure that students receive high-quality education and practical skills in a remote learning environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote business analytics professors, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Business Analytics Professors often encounter challenges such as maintaining student engagement, managing asynchronous communication, and ensuring effective assessment of analytical skills from a distance. To address these, many professors incorporate interactive virtual tools, frequent video sessions, and real-world case studies to foster participation. Establishing clear communication channels and providing timely feedback are also essential for supporting students and creating a collaborative online learning environment.

Get to Know the Opportunity:

Do you have a passion for turning data into actionable business insights? Are you energized by solving complex business challenges through analytics and working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? At Voya, our purpose is to fight for everyone's opportunity for a better financial future. To support the continued growth of our Wealth Management business, we are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to help advance our business intelligence capabilities through enterprise reporting, analytics, forecasting, and automation.

In this role, you will partner with Wealth Management leaders, Product teams, Finance, Data Engineering, and Technology partners to design and deliver scalable reporting solutions that enable data-driven decision making. You will transform complex business questions into meaningful insights, robust KPI frameworks, and executive-ready dashboards that help shape business strategy and performance.

This role may be based in one of Voya's office locations or performed remotely, depending on business needs, team alignment, and candidate location. If aligned to a Voya office, the role may follow a hybrid work model with a combination of in-office and remote work.

The Contributions You'll Make:

  • Build scalable reporting and analytics solutions that support Wealth Management business objectives.
  • Integrate data across multiple enterprise systems and data sources to create trusted business insights.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries supporting reporting, analytics, and performance measurement needs.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses to identify trends, business opportunities, and performance drivers.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Technology teams to improve data quality, accessibility, and governance.
  • Deliver executive-level reporting and data storytelling that supports strategic decision making.
  • Support future-state forecasting, predictive analytics, and AI-enabled reporting initiatives.

Minimum Knowledge & Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, analytics, or data-focused roles.
  • Strong Power BI development experience, including dashboard design, data modeling, and visualization best practices.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based data environments such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience integrating multiple data sources and developing scalable analytical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of professional experience, certifications, technical training, military experience, apprenticeships, or demonstrated expertise will be considered.

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in Wealth Management, Retirement Services, Asset Management, or Financial Services.
  • Experience with Python, automation, or advanced analytics tools.
  • Exposure to predictive analytics or machine learning concepts.
  • Experience supporting forecasting and business planning initiatives.
