Job description

UI Health Care's Marketing and Communications department has an opportunity for a skilled communications coordinator to assist in the development, execution, implementation, and governance for University of Iowa Health Care's internal communications-focused digital products, with a primary focus on the intranet platform. This includes creating intranet content and site structure, applying user-center design principles, supporting platform governance, and using metrics and analytics to evaluate overall platform management. This person will collaborate with other internal departments to review and provide feedback on intranet content aimed at UI Health Care faculty, staff, students, and volunteers, tailoring the message and content to maximize effectiveness.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with site editors and content contributors to create an informative and engaging intranet experience for faculty and staff.

  • Assist in monitoring user access, branding, and design standards, and execute top-level content strategy (what is seen and where).

  • Assist in implementing various toolsets within the platform, including audience segmentation, content targeting, personalization, and employee distribution lists in collaboration with Human Resources and Health Care Information Systems.

  • Help implement governance procedures to ensure intranet content is accurate, relevant, routinely updated, and archived. Maintain the creation/review content cycle with departments.

  • Collect, analyze, and maintain metrics and dashboard data.

  • Review internal intranet communications for various departments and recommend strategies and best practices for publishing content.

  • Assist with intranet communications planning and coordinating projects to completion.

  • May assist in development of intranet roadmap adoption plans for departments, units, and other areas.

  • May assist in developing communication strategies, plans, and departmental training/onboarding information for the new intranet platform.

  • Support usability studies and ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG 2.1 AA), advocating for a user-friendly digital experiences. 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, web design, or relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or web design.

  • Ability to implement intranet frameworks, strategies, and best practices to support user experience, governance, and platform effectiveness,

  • Ability to write and edit content for a wide variety of communication materials-short news items, in-depth articles, web content, broadcast messages, etc.

  • Ability to adapt tactics and monitor projects to ensure efficient use of technical and communication resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Experience meeting multiple deadlines while working effectively in a collaborative environment.

Desired:

  • 3 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or web design.

  • Familiarity with internal communications and/or fast-paced environments.

  • Experience as a writer, copy editor, or another relevant communications role is preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Suites.

  • Knowledge and experience with web analytics software.

  • AP style competency.

  • Experience in health care, academics, or a large, complex organization.
