Position Description

The Trustee serves as part of the governing body responsible for ensuring that SCIT fulfills its mission, maintains academic quality, and preserves institutional integrity. Board members provide strategic oversight, fiduciary governance, and advisory leadership to support the long-term success and sustainability of the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight aligned with SCIT's mission and growth objectives
  • Ensure the institution maintains academic quality, regulatory compliance, and financial integrity
  • Review and approve major institutional policies, initiatives, and long-term plans
  • Contribute expertise to strengthen institutional performance, innovation, and outcomes
  • Participate in board meetings, committees, and institutional events
  • Act as an ambassador for SCIT within industry, community, and professional networks

Qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience in one or more relevant fields:
    • Engineering / Technology
    • Workforce development / Education
    • Business / Industry leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic governance and decision-making
  • Understanding of or interest in career-focused, technical education models
  • Commitment to student success, access, and workforce outcomes

Preferred (not required):

Time Commitment

  • Quarterly board meetings (3 virtual, 1 in person per yearNovember)
  • Committee membership and participation on at least one committee
  • Periodic strategic planning sessions and institutional engagement

Compensation

  • Trustees receive a stipend of $4,000 per year.
