What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote board member?

Building relationships with fellow board members may require extra effort through one-on-one virtual check-ins and prompt responses to emails. What is a remote board member?

Remote board members are individuals who serve on a company's board of directors but participate in meetings and fulfill their duties virtually, rather than being physically present at the company's location. They use digital collaboration tools to attend meetings, review documents, and vote on key decisions. This arrangement allows organizations to access a wider pool of expertise and experience, regardless of geographic location, while offering flexibility to board members. Remote board members are expected to uphold the same responsibilities and standards as those who attend in person.
