Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Product based in Netherlands.

As a Senior Software Engineer, Product, you will design, build, ship, and own end-to-end features used by thousands of developers and millions of end users. You will bring a strong backend foundation while contributing confidently across frontend, backend, and data layers. This is a hands-on individual contributor role where engineering excellence is combined with product thinking, customer empathy, and strong business judgment. You will take ownership from problem definition and prioritization through production rollout, monitoring, and continuous improvement. Working in a fully remote and highly autonomous environment, you will collaborate closely with Product and engineering teams while making thoughtful trade-offs between speed, quality, reliability, and scalability. Your work will directly influence products operating at significant scale and handling critical business and financial workflows.

Accountabilities
  • Design, build, test, deploy, monitor, and maintain high-quality product features across frontend, backend, and data layers.
  • Own initiatives end to end, from identifying and defining problems through scoping, prioritization, implementation, production rollout, and long-term maintenance.
  • Partner closely with Product and engineering colleagues to translate customer and business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems capable of supporting high-volume production workloads.
  • Develop user-facing experiences using React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frontend practices.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using technologies such as Python and Flask.
  • Work extensively with PostgreSQL and advanced SQL for data access, analysis, and application logic.
  • Debug complex issues across frontend, backend, and data boundaries and implement durable solutions that prevent recurring problems.
  • Monitor feature usage, adoption, performance, and reliability after launch, using insights to continuously improve the product.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, technical discussions, bug fixes, and quality initiatives.
  • Improve existing codebases and systems, including code you did not originally write.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, reliability, scalability, and engineering practices.
  • Make pragmatic decisions about scope and priorities, balancing technical quality with the need to deliver meaningful customer value quickly.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools effectively to accelerate development while carefully reviewing generated code and validating its correctness.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions that affect broader systems and teams.
  • Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand product needs and assess how new features perform in practice.
  • Mentor other engineers through thoughtful feedback, code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactively identify problems, suggest improvements, and take ownership of driving solutions through to completion.
  • Contribute to incident response, technical investigations, and initiatives that improve system reliability and operational excellence.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend foundation and a proven track record of building and operating high-scale production systems.
  • Strong proficiency in backend engineering combined with genuine hands-on frontend development experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to write complex queries beyond basic data retrieval and updates.
  • Strong proficiency with React and experience independently owning meaningful frontend and UI development.
  • Solid foundations in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, together with a strong understanding of HTTP and browser-server interactions.
  • Experience building and operating meaningful user-facing features in production, including monitoring adoption and iterating based on results.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, code quality, maintainability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Experience working with TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Python, Flask, and cloud-hosted systems is highly relevant.
  • Familiarity with AWS environments and modern practices for deployment, monitoring, reliability, and production operations.
  • Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar codebases and confidently improve systems you did not build yourself.
  • Strong product mindset, with the ability to understand customer needs, identify valuable problems, scope solutions, and prioritize effectively.
  • High standards for quality combined with sound judgment about when to simplify, reduce scope, or iterate after launch.
  • Customer-focused approach and the ability to think from the perspective of developers, product managers, marketers, and other users of the product.

  • Willingness to participate in rigorous technical interviews, including live coding focused on frontend fundamentals, SQL, data logic, and algorithmic programming.
