Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Engineer (focused on Virtualization) based in Netherlands.

This is a senior infrastructure engineering role at the core of large-scale, globally distributed systems supporting high-availability digital products used by millions of users worldwide. You will be responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving enterprise-grade virtualization environments across VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms. The role spans both Hyper-Converged Infrastructure and traditional SAN-based architectures, requiring strong technical depth and operational excellence. You will ensure stability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical systems while contributing to modernization, automation, and hybrid cloud integration initiatives. The environment is highly collaborative, working closely with SRE, DevOps, networking, and support teams to resolve complex infrastructure challenges. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in deep technical problem-solving and large-scale infrastructure optimization. It is a fully remote opportunity within a globally distributed engineering organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, deploy, administer, and continuously optimize enterprise virtualization platforms based on VMware (ESXi, vCenter) and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Manage Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (vSAN) and traditional SAN-based environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Oversee infrastructure lifecycle activities including upgrades, patching, migrations, and hybrid/cloud integration initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve system performance through proactive troubleshooting, capacity planning, and reliability engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, Network, and Support teams to resolve complex production incidents and perform root cause analysis.
  • Manage storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions aligned with enterprise best practices.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and support continuous improvement of operational procedures.

Requirements:
  • Strong hands-on expertise in VMware virtualization technologies including ESXi, vCenter, and enterprise-scale environments.
  • Proven experience with VMware vSAN, including deployment, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft virtualization stack, including Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).
  • Strong understanding of virtual networking concepts such as vSwitches, Distributed Switches, VLANs, NIC teaming, and network segmentation.
  • Practical experience with SAN storage technologies (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, FCoE) and enterprise storage architectures.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, Bash, or similar tools.
  • Experience with core Microsoft infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance optimization, and analytical skills in complex infrastructure environments.
  • Good communication skills with at least B1+ English proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively in distributed, cross-functional technical teams.

Benefits:
  • Fully remote work opportunity with global flexibility
  • 28 days of annual vacation plus 7 additional wellness days
  • Performance-based bonuses, including referral rewards up to $5,000
  • Financial support for training, certifications, conferences, and professional development (50% coverage)
  • Corporate discounts for English language learning programs
  • Annual healthcare compensation up to $1,000 for insurance or medical expenses
  • Workplace setup reimbursement up to $1,000 every three years for home office or co-working space
  • Internal rewards system with redeemable perks such as merchandise, team activities, and wellness experiences
  • Access to a global engineering environment focused on large-scale, high-availability systems
