Remote Biotech Software Engineer information

How does a remote biotech software engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a distributed work environment?

Remote Biotech Software Engineers often work closely with scientists, data analysts, and product managers through virtual collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms. Effective communication and regular updates are essential to ensure alignment on project goals, especially when integrating software solutions with laboratory workflows or bioinformatics pipelines. Engineers may participate in daily stand-up meetings, code reviews, and sprint planning sessions to stay connected and address challenges promptly. Building strong relationships remotely requires proactive engagement and clear documentation to bridge the gap between technical and scientific teams.

What is a remote biotech software engineer?

A Remote Biotech Software Engineer is a professional who develops, maintains, and optimizes software applications for biotechnology companies while working outside of a traditional office setting, often from home or another remote location. Their work typically involves creating tools for bioinformatics, data analysis, laboratory automation, or clinical research, supporting scientists and researchers in the biotech field. These engineers use programming languages and frameworks to solve complex biological problems, ensure data integrity, and streamline research processes. The role requires strong technical skills, knowledge of biotechnology concepts, and the ability to collaborate virtually with multidisciplinary teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote biotech software engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Biotech Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (such as Python, Java, or C++), a solid understanding of biology or bioinformatics, and a relevant degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, cloud computing platforms (like AWS or Azure), and version control systems (such as Git) is typically required, along with experience using specialized biotech databases and APIs. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing independent workloads. These competencies ensure reliable, innovative software solutions that advance biotech research and development while maintaining productivity in a remote work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Biotech Software Engineer vs Remote Bioinformatics Software Developer?

AspectRemote Biotech Software EngineerRemote Bioinformatics Software Developer

Job description

Position: Application Security Engineer (Senior AppSec)

Location: Remote

Duration: 6-12+ Months Contract

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Senior Application Security Engineers to join our team and play a critical role in validating AI‑generated vulnerability findings and translating them into actionable technical remediation. This position requires strong expertise in application and product security, combined with a deep understanding of how vulnerabilities map to code and how developers remediate them in production environments. The ideal candidate will have a background as a software engineer who transitioned into AppSec, bringing both security insight and practical development knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate AI‑generated vulnerability findings (e.g., from Anthropic’s Mythos) and assess exploitability, severity, and business impact.

  • Trace vulnerabilities to their technical root cause at the code level.

  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement secure remediation strategies.

  • Conduct secure code reviews, threat modeling, and vulnerability assessments.

  • Define and enforce secure SDLC practices across product teams.

  • Provide guidance on API security, OWASP Top 10 risks, and secure design principles.

  • Partner with product owners and engineering teams to ensure vulnerabilities are remediated effectively and deployed safely.

  • Document findings, remediation steps, and best practices to strengthen organizational security posture.

Required Skills
  • Strong background in Application Security / Product Security.

  • Hands‑on experience with OWASP Top 10, SAST, vulnerability assessment, secure SDLC, threat modeling, code review, API security.

  • Ability to validate findings, assess severity, and trace vulnerabilities to root cause.

  • Experience working directly with developers to remediate vulnerabilities.

  • Strong communication skills to bridge security and engineering teams.

Ideal Profile
  • A software engineer turned AppSec professional — someone who understands both the security problem and how developers actually fix it.

  • Proven ability to work across multiple product teams, enabling secure development practices.

  • Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and integrating security tooling into developer workflows.
